    Default Eliminating routing units

    Hi all,

I have been playing EB for about 2 weeks now and I love the game! kudos to the devs.

However, I do have a question/issue about routing units:

whenever an enemy unit routes, I have trouble eliminating them before they make it out of the battle zone. Even if its fresh cavalry vs winded/exhausted infantry a few remaining infantrymen survive (the enemy units are surrounded in the formation of my men but do now get run down... Now I know its not a huge issue but I am used to vanilla RTW routing infantry being mowed down when properly pursued. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/image...ns/hmmm9uh.gif
Any tips/ suggestions? I dont like my enemy to live and fight me another day

This usually happens for me too. The chasing unit walks by the routers, trying to take on one of the routing men before choosing the next. You can fix this, by ordering the chasing unit to move somewhere else, then ordering them back into chasing.

For larger groups, cavalry work wonders for reducing them, it's just the last few men. There are two ways I've mostly solved the problem of the last few guys. First (particularly if the last few guys are spread out), you can manually move the cavalry around the guys; your units should still attack, and as long as you've been fighting on your side of the map or near the middle, you shouldn't have much trouble killing them. Second, you can use missile units, particularly slingers; they're highly lethal and slingers in particular are very accurate.

There is, of course, one other method - don't rely on cavalry to run down routers to extinction. If you swamp a particular unit with infantry from three sides (or just get them "Fighting to the Death"), your infantry will usually cut them down much more quickly than cavalry do.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

That usually happens to be, probably because I will chase the routers with light cavalry (anything heavier is exhausted until then). Light cavalry usually have poor lethality secondaries, which is why some routers tend to escape.

It is possible to herd them away from the red line. If the routers come close to any of your units, they will turn away from them. Use light cavalry to deflect them, finish them off with heavy cavalry or infantry.

PS: Sometimes I will finish them off with archers/slingers if they have any ammo left.
