Default Certain Artillery Units Causing Crashes

Hi all, playing COW 1.5 with steam. Have installed the 1.51 fix along with english translation. I play on a win 7 64 bit system.

My problem is that as certain artillery units like the goblin dive bomber is just about to shoot the game crashes to desktop. So far there has been no issues with crashing for me for anything else. Some artillery units like the dwarven mortar shoot fine, it just seems that it's mostly the exotic artillery units that causes this issue.

Can anyone with experience of this problem help me resolve it?

    Thanks

    Hello.

I have the same problem with dive bomber. When it moves it's all fine. But if it try to shoot game crash. I play on Gigantus version with both patches, windows 7.

Hey, yeah I was having the same problem too. I'm also on Gigantus' version with both patches on Windows 7 64 bit.

I checked the "descr_projectile" file and found that the entries for the Goblin Doom Diver Catapult, Earthshaker Cannon and Death Rocket pointed to the wrong projectile model. In my file, they all pointed to "mods/Call_of_Warhammer/data/models_missile" for the model - whereas it should now be "mods/Rage_of_dark_Gods/data/models_missile" as they've changed the mod folder name.

So I just changed "Call_of_Warhammer" to "Rage_of_dark_Gods" for the three entries: "projectile goblin_new", "projectile earthshaker_new" and "projectile death_rocket". Seems to work fine for me now, so hopefully does for you guys too !

Dude! You are pure genius! That simple!

But tell me, where can I fix Anvil of Doom?

I'm pretty sure I'm having the same problem, but in my file it simply starts at the data file.

    Example: data/models_missile/Earthshaker_Cannon_Rocket_new.cas, max
    I think I'm funny.

Hi there Inconsistent - does the crash happen in battle just as the siege engines fire? Or is the crash before the battle while it is on the loading screen?
It's the Earthshaker Cannon, Chaos Rocket and Goblin Doom Diver yeah? Oh and are you using the steam version?

Maybe check the format of the other references to .cas files in the "descr_projectile" file too, to see if that's consistent with how it points to them. (i.e. if they're all just the shorter "data/models_missile" instead of "mods/Rage_of_dark_Gods/data/models_missile")

Yeah, I'm using the steam version. It crashes during the battle, and the goblins I'm fighting have at least two of the catapults, and it's crashed at just about the same point in each of the battles when the skirmishing and the siege weapons begin firing, so I'd assume it'd be around then.

And yeah, they're all the shorter versions of the references.

Definitely sounds like the same problem yeah. But I don't use a steam version so I have no idea at all about what pathing issues could arise. Maybe the way it's installed causes it to somehow point to the wrong folder but just doesn't show that part in the "descr_projectile", but that sounds like a pretty far fetched guess lol. Where abouts exactly is the "projectile_goblin_new" file located? I don't suppose we could just write in a longer more accurate path line and force it to do it that way? I'm not at home at the moment so can't check how the "descr_projectile" file reacts to being modified like that, never tried it before.

Maybe someone with experience using the steam version or modifying pathing coud help out here? Yeah maybe try asking specifically in Gig's 1.5 installer thread if the above doesn't work, I'm sure someone will be able to figure it out eventually ^^.

Just out of interest, I'm assuming the same crash happens with the Earthshaker Cannon and Chaos Rocket as the Goblin Doom Diver in custom battles?

    "projectile_goblin_new" file is at
    data/models_missile/goblin_new.cas, max

Yeah, all 3 of them cause crashes.

Steam works by putting the mod into one of the existing folders right? Like teutonic or britannia etc. yeah? Would the longer directory for the goblin .cas file be something like "medieval 2 total war/mods/teutonic/data/models_missile" ? Just looking to see the exact directory so we know the file exists and was installed where it should be .

Nah, I use the Kingdoms Launcher app, which just lets you use the individual mod folders. I'll try and list it the same as you did.

Worked like a charm, at least with the goblin launcher. Thanks man.

Oh awesome! What'd you end up having to do? Just modify/extend the path reference in "descr_projectile"? Or did you move the .cas files instead? Hopefully what works for the Doom Diver will work for the Chaos Dwarf siege engine crashes too .

does anyone have the correct file of desc_projectile that will allow my chaos dwarfs to take their rockets and cannons and fight gobos without crashing?

    I extended the reference.

Hi there Shef, are you using Gigantus' 1.5 installer version or the normal version? And is this for the steam version or normal?

The second post in Gig's 1.5 thread has a quickfix which is just the working "desc_projectile" to download - so that one should work all fine .

ok i did that before but i guess it didn't work. i moved the original file out of the folder and moved the new one in after. now the death rockets work. i've run customs firing multipe times no porblem. but the earth shakers still crash the game.

Yeah actually I just tested that quickfix projectile file Gigantus put up, and it does crash for me too on the Doom Divers and Earthshaker. What's the exact location of those three .cas files for you? As in Medieval II Total War/mods etc. I don't know all the technical stuff about pathing issues, but all I did was extend the path reference for the .cas projectile model to be more specific - so instead of "data/models_missile/...", I wrote "mods/Rage_of_dark_Gods/data/models_missile/..." .
