Mouse stopped working on the RTW strat map

Im having a very peculiar problem. I boot RTW or RTW - BI or RTW -ALX and all have 'laggy' mouse movement on the first menu screen ,to than completly not work once on the stratmap.

Ive updated my mousedriver ,but to no succes.

Can you start a new campaign and have the mouse "work"?

I reinstalled everything ,but to no avail.

Make and model of the mouse.

Some generic ones by Dell and HP are not being game friendly.

Wireless or wired? if wireless, try a wired and vice versa.

Mousemodel : It is a razer and ive been using it for about 2 years now without any malfunction.

I don't have a non-wired mouse, but I might have some friends who do. So I'll check that out later.

I've tried it with another wired mouse and it still has the same issue.

For what it counts , I have the same issue ,with Mount and Blade. I can there get to the menu screen ,but I can only hover the screen ,not being able to select anything.

I just got a Razer Death Adder Black about two weeks ago and now having to unlearn twenty-odd years of bad habits.

I just tried it on RTW vanilla and it worked as advertized, campaign map speed, edge scrolling, middle wheel zoom in/out.

If this is the onle one it does it on, and reinstalling, uninstall, delete all traces of the game, run a registry cleaner, and reboot first.

It worked well ,for two years until couple of weeks back...

Could you tell me what I need to do exactly to remove everything?

In control Panel > Remove Programs, may differ some depending on windows version, go down to where they are listed. If you have all three installed, uninstall Alex fisrst, then BI, then RTW.
Next delete the Rome: Total War folder.
Next, use a good free registry cleaner. Most use Ccleaner, I refer Eusing Free Registry Cleaner.
Next Reboot. This should finisf removing everything including what's in memory.
Now, install it, patch it, and try the mouse, again.
This game is old enough to have developed a mind of its own.

I was more expecting the reverse to be true to be honest. I have a Sharkoon fire glider which is great. Prior to that I had a Logitech Click!+ (wireless), that used to behave weirdly on RTW and MTW, and also excel, you couldn't right click menus in cells whereas wired has never been a problem. I assume there was some odd wireless channel interference with the logitech.

Maybe install it in a totally didifferent folder, maybe on another drive if you have two harddrives.

If you're using Vista or Win7, tried "Run asAdministrator" and "XP Compatible", yet?

I rebought the boxed copy (it was a steamcopy btw ,in which the problems posed themselves) and installed it . The boxed copy works (installed on D: drive) and the steamversion (installed on C: drive) still sucks.
No need for 'run as admin' or check the xp compatibility on the boxed version...

So ... it is most probably steamrelated?
