    Default Editting Armour Progression Stats

I was wondering if it is possible to edit the stats of each armour. I read somewhere that despite each upgrade showing only a +1 increase in armour, in battle, the upgraded armour was calculated as a specific stat

For example (because i'm really bad at expressing myself), leather has a set armour value of 4 (i think) so if you have a town militia (originally unarmoured with an armour value of 0) and upgrade it to leather, despite it only showing an armour value of 1, it would act as if it had an armour value of 4.

I think the vanilla armour progression went soemthing like this:
    leather - 4
    Light mail - 5
    Heavy mail - 6
    Partial plate - 8
    Full/Advanced plate - ??
    Or something similar.
Anyways the main question was, is it possible to edit the progression from the vanilla to something different?

I was thinking of making it

    Unarmoured - 1
    Leather - 4
    Light mail - 6
    Heavy mail - 7
    Partial plate - 9
    Full plate - 10
    Advanced plate - 11

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Instead each upgrade is worth roughly the same set amount (~2-2.5).

The only real possibility for the kind of adjustment you want is that you can make some upgrades worth double or even triple. But this means they go straight to silver or gold, the max level of upgrade being gold (level 3).

Have a look in export_descr_units.txt, the text at the top of the file show help you work out which stats are relevant.

Hmmm thats a shame, However, in export_descr_units.txt i found this line at the top:

    ; stat_armour_ex Details of the man's defences
; armour factor. 4 values. First for base value, then 3 upgrade levels
; defensive skill factor (not used when shot at)
; shield factors. First for melee, second for missile fire
; sound type when hit = flesh, leather, or metal

However, in every unit the stat_armour_ex line has a ; in front of it so im sort of wondering what the point of the line is

I've also encountered a second problem of the units not showing the new edited values.
For example armoured sergeants shows a defence value of 17 ( i'm playing Britannia) despite having a defense value of 6, 3, 6 which should add up to 15. BTW this is on custom battles

actually if the computer does use the stat_armour_ex then it would explain the 2-2.5 increase per level

    type Spear Militia
    dictionary Spear_Militia ; Spear Militia
    category infantry
    class spearmen
    voice_type Light
    banner faction main_spear

    stat_pri_armour 0, 3, 8, flesh
    ;stat_armour_ex 0, 2, 3, 5, 3, 8, 8, flesh

ownership england, scotland, france, hre, denmark, spain, portugal, slave, normans, wales, norway, barons_alliance
    era 0 scotland
    era 1 scotland
    ;unit_info 7, 0, 11
    recruit_priority_offset -25

shows that the computer considers the first upgrade a +2, the second one a +1 and the third upgrade a +2 again

Actually that line does nothing, as its commented out, and if uncommented has no effect in game.
