Default Having a prob with an unspecified error

Hi, my computer was a bit odd over the past few days, the internet went down somthing to do with damage to system relating to fiber optic cables going down. Sme of my programes were going funny because they could not access the web, including my anti-virus. I was sitting it out and was modding away. I put in a new figure which went fine and then another when i went to start the game after edditing the files. The small splash screen came up, then a messge "Rome total War encountered an unspecified error and will now close", Initialy i figured it was a problen with the editing of the text, checked it out, same again, redid the edditing twice same result. Figured there must be somthing wrong with the cas or simmilar so restored the origional files. Same message.
Then oppened another copy of RTW same message and for all the copies including BI and Alex. Took it to an old computer and it worked fine. I'm running it on Windows seven but the old computer was XP, but the thing has run fine for a few months now on 7
I've never encounterd this before do I have a virus? I've run anti virus and it's fine. Is there a setting gone out of whack or something.
Any advice from you folks at TWC, to an increasingly desperate modder.

Disable the UAC could help in this case.
Taking ownership of the C: drive with your login may also help.

Sorry dude tried the UAC thing as you sugested, just coming up the same as per the first post. It's weird because I havn't had any problems with RTW like this. If it is a virus than that's strange because the Web was down then and the pevious day. I was wondering if I had accidentaly changed a setting important to the program? Can't think how though, just did somthing I've done many thimes before and including that day and then suddenly the unspecified error thing as per the first post?

    Thanks though for the help.

What version of RTW/BI? sometimes the only thing that works is a reinstll.

Does it work without your mod efforts?

Dude, it's affecting all my RTW games modded unmodded even newly installed, BI Alex and RTW Vanila non 1.5 and 1.5 the lot baisicly really. I think it must be a setting thing or maybe a virus, if it's a virus then three AV programs have not picked it up. And it was working fine just a few minuets previously at a time when I had no access to the internet and was not using any programes other than the ussual RTW modding types i had used hundreds of times before. The games are all on a hard drive and work fine on my old computer. The whole thing is extremely odd.

Hi, just to report the error has fixed it's self, I was searching about this and other sites for a solution and returned to the computer. The RTW was up so i gave it another spin, up she came just like normal. Apart from the UAC thing adjusted nothing that I hadn't before. All very spooky and the Outer Limits.
I suspect the computer was connecting with Windows and some setting were adjusted automaticaly or similar. I wish i knew what happened. It certainly wasn't me.

Thanks Irishron for the help apreciated.

Was panicking there RTW is great on the high setting alowed on an i5 and was well into a mod, which is working out so well I might get round to finishing it. i just had a 30 day session on the 3DMax, making figures for it, Zulu's Shiks, Indian's all sorts with thier strat figs marching around the map. Amazon's Centaurs, Giants for a different Mod I'm planning. Total relife all round

Hi, thanks again, it was weird, the net went down and my computer seemed to experience somethnig of a nervuos breakdown. I thought the danger was when you conected to the web rather than the other way round.
The upside though is I think i know how to get 3DMax on a semi permanent baisis, which would be quite a bonus.

    With thanks
