How to mod Hero Units for earlier inclusion in the game

Hello everyone. I'm trying to mod the game to allow me to build a Katana Hero unit early on, maybe even start with one. I hate how the hero units aren't available until the game is already over and there are doom stacks everywhere.

How would I go about doing this? I have the Pack file manager I just can't seem to find a way to do it. I tried changing the building_units_allowed but the changes I made wouldn't work. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated. I am using Darth Mod by the way if that makes any difference.
