How to get allies into the fight?
My question is: Apart from giving them a payout, is there any sure-way of getting your ally to join a war with an obvious common enemy?
Ok here the situation:
I've allied with my neighbours (Leon) and have been waging a war with the Moors. Initially Leon was also fighting with the Moors (actually I joined the fight at Leon's request!) Anyways, after a number of turns, I think Leon needed some room to breath and asked for a ceasefire with the Moors.
The Moors quickly agreed because they were fighting on many fronts, me (aragon), french and portugeses and someone else...cannot remember.
Anyways, with 1 less enemy they turned a couple of armies towards me which I quickly defeated however I also took quite abit of casualties. I managed to hold my own and even captured a large town. But now with another war with the Egyptians (due to the crusades)....my treasury is taking a massive hit. I do not want to be depleted and asked Leon to rejoin the war (this is quite a number of turns after Leon-Moors ceasefire). They duely rejected even after I wanted to give them a massive payout (about 10,000)
Eventually, they restarted the war with the Moors again....cannot remember who declared with who. But I'm pretty sure Leon recovered during the ceasefire.

Re: How to get allies into the fight?
If Leon is your ally, its a little tricky but, wait until a Leonesse army is adjacent to a Moorish army and attack that Moorish army.
I think your ally will get the battle screen and you can kind of force them into the war that way. Only problem is you have to wait until those 2 have armies touching.
Im sure you, like me, have had it happen where this has happened to you... Your ally attacks a nation neutral to you and since your army is adjacent you get the battle screen. Of course you can opt out of the attack but, I think the computer wont do that.

I admit to stealing my allies sieges, also. If you see them sieving a city, go ahead and pile on with a general and some siege weapons. Your combined strength should be more than enough to take the city, and you as the initiator in the attack get the glory (not to mention the territory). My fondest memories in SS include a very effective coordinated strike I led against the Moors as Paragon with Leon and Portugal. I felt so indebted that I never took the rest of Spain, content that our yellows melded together nicely enough on the mini map.

The only reliable way I've seen to get a former ally to fight a common enemy is to capture some land deep in the enemies territory and give it as a gift- almost always the enemy will attack drawing your ally back into the war.
