    Default Help With Recruitment

    Hello SS community,

    I looked in the mod workshop section and the forum search, so as a last resort I will ask here in what is probably not the most appropriate place (I can already hear Ferdiad telling me to look harder).

    How do I change the recruit times for units (if I can at all) within the SS 6.4 mod.

    Example: Dismounted Junior Druzhina will be ready for recruitment in 8 turns (that's 10 units in 80 years?)

    How can I change that to be recruited, say, every year or two years?

    Some units I get that they were not that widely available (like Dis. Norman Knights), but some units do not have the capability past once or twice a decade (not accurate or fun).

    I'm not sure how to edit the files, but most units replenish rate will lower as you upgrade the appropriate building. Building the next tier of archery range should allow you to recruit faster. Units that are tied to the castle building are stuck as they are I'm afraid.

    I tried adding population and process_cq all the buildings and letting that go for a few turns just to make sure. Nope, Dismounted Jr Druhzina still takes 8 turns to recruit (1 less after each turn, its not stuck at 8). This confuses me because they are not even elite infantry for Nov, Dis. Boyars are.

    Oh well, I was hoping to play a game with Nov and have an archer/axeman infantry like in vanilla.

    On another note it take Berdiche Axemen 3 turns to RECRUIT (not replenish). I'm not using RR, so maybe a bug since all other units I have ever seen are recruited in 1 turn.

    In your SS6.3\data there is a text file, export_descr_buildings. Open it up and press control+f, type dismounted junior druzhina (or) whatever unit you are looking for.

    Here are 2 examples. In this case the number you will be looking at is in bold.

    recruit_pool "Dismounted Junior Druzhina" 1 0.17 1 0 requires factions { russia, kievan_rus, } and hidden_resource kievan_rus


    recruit_pool "Dismounted Junior Druzhina" 0 0.13 1 0 requires factions { russia, kievan_rus, } and not hidden_resource kievan_rus

    This first example (with hidden_resource kievan_rus) refers to recruiting the unit in the general "Russia" area. The second example (not hidden_resource kievan_rus) refers to recruiting the unit outside of Russia. The number in bold shows the rate at which a unit replenishes. A unit appears every time the number passes 1.0. In this case it would take 6 turns or years for a unit to appear. If you want it to replenish faster, you would change the number to anything above .17 but below 1.0.

    Be careful with editing the the replenish rate, you will change your army ratios and it may become too easy to conquer your neighbors.

    Worked great. I appreciate the links Ferdiad. But that Berdiche Axemen 3 turn recruitment is still bugging me. I know the 1st number after unit cost in the export_descr_unit file is the number of turns to recruit the unit AND the Berdiche Axemen unit has a 3 in that slot. But....other units have a 3 in that slot and still are recruited in 1turn. Weird, huh? In fact the Hungarian Battle Assassins have a 6 there.

    Anyways...thank you all for your help. Ferd's links should be stickied. I was always pretty good with the export_desc]nit.txt file, but knew little about the other one.

    EDU dosnt work like thta, if it says 3 its going to be recruited in 3 turns, not 1, 3.

    Ferdiad,

    I did change the 3 to a 1 in the export_desc_unit.txt, the 1st number after the unit cost. Now the Berdiche axemen get recruited in 1 turn and not 3. It did work.

    Of course it worked, why shouldn't it. Its just you said units with 3 turn recruitments take only 1 turn to recruit.
