    Default Retreat for no reason?

Hello guys, the most unusual thing happened to me. I outnumbered the enemy, had better troops but in the middle of the fight, my troops surrended, no reason.... They pull back and then came back to fight just to surrender again a few seconds later.

    Why did that happen?

    Welcome to the leadership system!

No command rating = insane morale penalty. You need to use the right commanders to lead your armies.

I was taken off guard by this as well.

Thank you for your answer! I think I can manage this new system... Sadly I ran into a bug that broke my game. After I won this certain battle, and I occupy the city, I get a CTD... If I lose the battle, no CTD... But there's a catch, the city I'm taking after the battle, it's not related to the battle itself, it's a city that I take for a battle I had the turn before that... So I don't know how that's linked, but I tested it twice, and it keeps happening.

Well, I hope I don't have to restart my game over this, or lose this battle that would leave me quite exposed... Thanks

Could you maybe try to do an auto-battle? This could be the vanilla reinforcement-bug, in which a reinforcing army isn't completely destroyed after a battle and doesn't have any place to go to because you just conquered the city. That causes a CTD. Otherwise, I wouldn't know what's causing this.

Auto-battle would make me lose the entire army, so it's not an option, I already tried, no CTD, but losing that battle is like opening the doors of Rome... I have to fight it so I can win it, but if I win... CTD, and they don't need a place to go because I crushed them all... So I don't what to do, I think I should consider starting with another faction...

Anyways, thank you very much for your help.

Another option would be to load a save from a turn or two back and then manually attack the city. Alternatively, you could lift the siege and try to capture the settlement later in order to get passed the CTD.
