    Default Forts?

    Hey, I was wondering if there is any thoughts about adding the option for constructable forts like in vanilla kingdoms. I have found myself several times during the storm of chaos campaign wishing that my generals could construct forts.

    How much would it take to add the option to the campaign? I would do it myself but I have no modding ability whatsoever. Is there a file or something that can be copied over from the kingdoms folder?

    Thanks for any responses

    Forts tend to get in the way of heavily scripted campaign maps.

    This is not to say you can't reactivate them though.

    In descr_campaign.db.xml

    <destroy_empty_forts bool="false"/>
    <can_build_forts bool="false"/>

    Just turn that second false into true and you're good to go.

    If i turn both to "true" will this mean that if no one is fortified in a fort for two turns that the fort will go away?

    Yes it does. Just tried it and the fort disappeared after being left empty

    It doesn't make sense for there to be stone forts. Is there a way to get wood ones back?

    The small wooden forts would actually make some sense for Empire and Dwarves. Massive stone forts erected in a couple months don't make sense.

    Thanks for the response guys. Im gonna give it a shot and see how it goes.

    After i test it out for a while I will try re-post and let everyone know what Ive discovered as far as the reaction to building them and the way they fit into scripted campaign.

    Personally, I think that having the option to construct at least wooden forts is a huge strategic option...especially when those hordes of chaos start coming down. My opinion anyways.

    I was never a big fan of forts. They are always too small and units get annihilated by artillery and archers more than in open field battles.

    I like the idea of forts, they give a quick and cheap way to garrison troops. Most of the time I would sally forward if the attackers have arty, or if I have a full stack in a single fort. Its definitely worth toying around with, IMO, but I agree with you guys that the stone forts dont make much sense. Hopefully one of the more experienced modders will see this post and let us know how to get wooden forts back.

    I personally get around that by raising the cost to 150000 gold. It might be erected within the space of a few months, but by god, it better be up in a few months for the money I'm paying for it.

    As for making the forts back to wooden ones, I suspect it could be done by following the turning wooden forts to stone forts tutorial backwards.
