Console issue

When playing Rome Total War on my laptop I can't seem to bring up the console. The ~ button is the 1 and ! key and ctrl+alt+1 doesn't seem to work (or other combos). The button left of it (¨¸) which usually performs this function also doesn't bring up the console. I tried other key combos too and nothing. My laptop is Toshiba Intel Core i7 2630qm, Windows 7. Please help me figure it out!

There is a keys.txt or under another name you can map the keys. Search for it.

The file is keys.dat. What do I use to edit it? Notepad or Word scramble the words.

I have no problems bringing up the console window on my desk computer with a more conventional keyboard, so it's probably a laptop key configuration thing, I just don't know how to deal with it. Any additional help is more than welcome.

Go to your RTW/data/text folder.

There's a file called: shortcut.txt (or if file extensions are disabled: shortcut).

Open it with notepad.

Search for the line: show_console

now if it says "hidden" on the right - remove the hidden.

Save the file - start your game - go into options/controls and press reset to default

In the list of misc. controls you should see now a line: show debug console

Feel free to remap it with whatever key you want.

Don't forget to make a backup of the file before editing it so in case you screw it up
you'll be on the safe side - you won't get original files from here as it is against the ToS.

Oh - sorry i just noticed i forgot about the 'descr_' part of the filename - but then again
there aren't that many files in this folder so it's easy to find when you know what yer
looking for.
