    Default silvan units

Hi, I'm curious why Silvan Elves have no special units available in any particular settlements like Caras Galadhom or Thranduil's Halls. In my opinion, playing as Gondor, for example, is more climatic thanks to Pelargir Marines or Ithilien Rangers. The same as each other good faction except Silvans.

    Gondor - 8 special units
    Rohan - 6
    Dale - 7
    Eriador - 10
    Dwarves - 3
    High Elves - 4
    Silvan Elves - 0

What do you think about that?

    Ahem :

Can you name all these other units? The amount of Gondor and Dwarven units are true, but I dont believe the other ones

Yeah, I guess they could really at least need some special Lothlorien and Woodland realm units if these two factions remain united.

On the other hand they are next in line for a rework anyways and I could well imagine that this will change then.

(After all High Elves had no AOR units in the beginning, too.)

I think that LL would be re-working the Silvian Elves too, not sure though.

jep, I think he (Luis Lux) posted this somewhere in the High-Elven-rework-thread, that he will do the Silvans next.
perhaps he is working on it right now?!
then some AORs for Lorien would really be nice!
and I want to see the high-tier-units reworked. they are somehow a bit too shiny, the shoulder-armor looks a bit impractical and the "armor-skirt" around their feet is a) absolutely impractical and it shines from far away in colours, from which my eyes are getting hurt.

Do you know any submod copatybile with 3.1 changing their units?
BTW, shuldn't they have more axes or even maces instead of boring swords? After all, they live in woods. I think that they need any javelinmen too, to fight with trolls.

Louis Lux was working on redoing the Silvans, but he hasn't logged in since January 17.

In my opinion the Silvans have 2 very special units-the Ents(although only mercenary) and my favourite silvan heavy archers (they are the only bowmen with two handed sword as far as I know).

But of course I would be even happier if they had other unique units (meiby a heavy cavalry unit?)

Heavy cavalry is fairly ineffective in a forest, a mounted forest wardens could be though.

    yes, the ents ok.
but the silvan heavy archers are no "special"-unit. not an AOR and they have their counterpart in the heavy arxhers of the high elves...

Nice idea, what Silvans are really missing is cavalry

Well I sort of miss the point there, if we want to talk about all factions not having AOR units, then include Rhun, Harad OotMM and OoG. Of course it'd be nice to have AOR units, would be really cool in fact, but then I think those factions would require some too. (I have no idea what type of units they should have though)

Again I say I miss rare heavy (elven chainmail) dual wield silvan rangers (and their more common normal leather ones).

I agree that possibly mounted forest wardens could be cool, but to be honest the silvan elves shouldn't have much cavalry, they live in heavily forested areas that are very difficult to gain access to (they don't build bridges across rivers to prevent orcs from using them). Mounted forest wardens could be ok though, with the silvan elves the emphasis needs to be on their skill in fighting and in using hit-and-run tactics - any armour more advanced than basic chainmail is just not justifiable. They were specifically described by Tolkein as not being particularly skilled in forging arms and in warfare (in comparison to other elves), their culture was based more around respecting nature and the earth.

Here are the four units i added:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The bolt thrower was added from Call of warhammer mod, but i think it really looks good for both High and Silvan Elves. I didn't have to add that add but just changed it's cas and texture to this one. My goal is to remove all the heavy troops but keep the heavy archers only for the Generals bodyguard. They are light but fast using the move_speed_mod 1.3 line in the EDU.
