    Default Battle comments

There is a voice commenting the development of the battle, is there a way to turn it off? I start to find it pretty darn irritating, I don't need captain obvious to comment everything. In the sound settings menu, I turned off "speech" to zero, but then the voices on the campaign map disappeared as well, and I like those.

I'm the opposite. I find the campaign map voices annoying but like the battle comments.

I've got the preferences file set to read only, with speech turned off as default. I use the in-game menu to manually restore speech when I play battles, then switch it off again when I go back to the campaign map. I find this a mild inconvenience, if that.

Hm, manually, like ppl tend to do with battle time limit and sieges?

It is a bit inconvenient, but I'll do that if I find it too irritating though.

I usually dont mind it, but when it tells me "the enemy has the walls, look to our defences or all will be lost!" I facepalm slightly. Especially when I'm doing the bloody attacking. I can live without the announcements of walls being smashed down though, its kind of a given in any siege after about 1150.

It's incredibly annoying, but I've just learned to live with it.

"only a military genius can bring us victory from this disgrace"

(That's right, player, you're a disgrace, even though you always win when outnumbered 3 to 1)

Sometimes it tells you useful information, such as "only half the enemy forces are left" - this is not always obvious eg in a city fight or in woods/close terrain, or where the enemy forces have amalgamated into a single writhing mass that is having trouble deciding what to do because your shooting is so effective. Also it gives an indication of the morale level of your army. If you are in a huge battle and it says "the tide of battle seems to be turning our way" that can sometimes be helpful, or if it says at the start of a battle "the tide of battle seems to be turning against us" then you know you may get an heroic victory or a "Man of the Hour". So although sometimes it is wrong and annoying I would always leave it on. To know that the walls have come down in some part of a large town can also be useful if you are attacking from three directions and are too busy/forgot to check one of the attacks.

The only advice I truly find useful is when a general (friendly or enemy) falls, the percentage left is easy to check by hovering over the balance bar. Then you will also see that the comment regarding that either side has lost half is not always said when a side has lost 50%, however normally somewhere between 40-60%. The most annoying is "Our men are under attack, we have to do something!"

Yep, that guy can get pretty annoying, especially with those terrible fake accents. I have taken out 70-90% of an enemy force before the idiot tells me "They have lost half their army!" Then he tells you to act when your troops are getting shot. I honestly think he should be telling the AI that instead. My troops don't just stand around to get shot without reason, unlike the AI. And those movies of walls falling down, generals dying, and gates being breached are valuable seconds I can spend directing or redirecting my troops. On the bright side, you don't have to suffer a movie if you kill the enemy general with boiling oil from a gatehouse.

In short, he was okay when I first got the game. Now, he is Captain Obvious (or one of those annoying sportscasters that have to tell you what you just watched on your HD TV and are rewatching in a replay.)

Most of them are really annoying, but some can be nice. Like 'The enemy general flees like the coward he is' Now I know that, and will pause the battle and use my light cavalry to chase him down before he succeeds to flee
Under the patronage of Finlander. Once patron to someone, no longer.
    Content's well good, innit.
