are the leader and standard bearer(just a generalization dnt hassle me about the names) for each unit in the game stronger than the soldiers from the unit? Also how does the captains of the whole army measure up?

I've heard that they're better-statted than the units they lead, although the only thing I've found quickly is this.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Judging how very often the standard bearer is the last man of the unit alive, I think they have a couple of hit points more than a standard soldier. But so do all the FMs, which is good since they don't have so many accidental deaths this way. I remember playing Vanilla RTW as Carthage. I charged my FM's bodyguard unit into the back of a engaged spearmen enemy unit and my general fell from his horse on contact. The charge wasn't even completed.
