The Altar to Mars

Built by Vicinius Cornelius Picenus in DCLVII a.u.c

The people may leave offerings and preform sacrifices. It can also be used before the departure of Legions so that they may have the God's guidance and protection. It is made of fine marble and stands proudly in the center of the City. Various types of incense and other materials are around to help the people in their sacrifices.

The Pontifex Maximus arrives at the newly erected altar, seeking Vicinius

Quintus Valerius comes to see the new Altar to Mars, he is impressed with the high quality of marble

[Hobbes]

Vicinius arrives accompanied by two slaves carrying an baskets full of cereal and olives, offerings to Mars. He sees Lucius and approaches him.

[Pontifex Maximus]

Greetings, Flamen. I am happy to see you have started making offerings immediately. With the invasion in the north, we will need all of Mar's fury on our side. I have come to publicly validate you as the Priest of Mars, and entry into the college of pontiffs.

Greetings Pontifex Maximus Libanus, this new barbarian threat worries me also. We need to keep our roads open to Spain, it is too valuable a province. If we raise more legions this year I know Mars will be pleased by our offering.

Vicinius nods to the slaves. They place the baskets near the Altar. Vicinius hopes that his new position will make him more loved among the people.

Back in Rome for a few days, Sextus stops by the altar.

"Hello, Sextus. Have you come to leave an offering to Mars?"

[Lucius Malfoy]

Later that day, Maximinius arrives with a lamb...a servant carries it as he approaches the altar of Mars.

[The Stig]

"Hello, Sextus. Have you come to leave an offering to Mars?"

"That I am. With the endless war in Iberia and the Gallic invasion, I fear Rome needs all the help it can get."

[Hobbes]

Vicinius notices the Consul. Many people are approaching him.

"Please citizens, leave the Consul alone, he is here to sacrifice and is a busy man. Dear Atilius, you honour me with your presence. Are you ready to make the sacrifice? I presume it's for your expedition up north?"

[Lucius Malfoy]

You are correct, good Vicinius. I wish to make an offer to Mars and pray for good fortune upon our troops and a resounding, glorified victory.

The servant brings in the tied up lamb with the Consul who approaches the people and lets them speak to him for a bit.

Good citizens...take heart and hold fast. I go north to keep our lands safe from the Gauls. Sleep well in your homes tonight for the Republic shall keep you secure in these walls.

He then returns back to Vicinius.

"May the god of war guide you Atilius. And may the gods protect the people of Rome."

Vicinius orders two slaves to help with the sacrifice.

Gaius follow the man and the bull towards the altar/temple/place to sacrifice

In anticipation of the coming battle against the Gauls, Valerius approaches the alter with a bull, a ram and a cock. Only the best and most pure animals had been chosen for this sacrifice, A quick victory over the gallic tribes was needed.
