    Default Chariots Amaze Me (:

In most of my RTW career, I have rarely used chariots because of they simply die too easily against Phalanxes. I abandoned them all together a long time ago. Only recently, while playing the Seleucid Empire, I offered Macedon (whom I am at war with), 50,000 denarii for Larissa. It came with some garrison, and when I checked, there lay 2 Scythed chariots.

Now I am a big fan of missile warfare, as it thins down enemy lines very well before we even reach close combat. In my army, is four levy Pikemen, four Cretan Archers, and four Rhodian slingers.

I literally win battles just by my missiles(:

So today I tried to put my chariots to use. I had forgotten how much fun they were!(:
Nothings more pleasurable than watching some chariots beat down on a General cavalry unit and rip them to shreds.

So, do you guys love chariots? Or you hate them with a passion because of their ability to mess with formations.

I hate them enough that I nerfed them all down to 2 hp for the horses or chariots or whatever, I was just bloody annoyed when one unit of 9 scythed chariots destroyed 6 full units of hastati after they have been bombarded by pila and with the hastati in a 98% blob... So now all chariots got nerfed by me but I may change back yet I'm just not sure.

I never really had a problem with chariots until i came up against Amazon Rebels, they were the only faction in the game to ever entirely wipe out/render useless my armies.

I find them easy to kill when you cluster them up and make them unable to move.

Its the first battle thats the toughest, 'cause you need to change your strategy to adapt to this new enemy.

Meh I found them east to deal with when using "cultured" factions i.e Greeks and really well developed biased factions such as the Romans.

Frontline charges into infantry, when the only infantry vanilla Greek rosters have are phalangites does not end well

I absolutely love chariots. Particularly the fact they slay horses so easily. In a typical deployment, I mass my chariots on one flank (say, three units in a column) and, with some maneuvering, attack their cavalry on the flank, swith to the general in the centre and lastly finish off the cavalry on the other flank. This chariot column can also attack (light) infantry on the flanks without much trouble (chariots scare infantry). I generally don't use them as one would in a hammer-and-anvil approach, but more as a 'standalone' fighting force. Just keep them moving and they will do fine (even in melee one must not be content with double clicking the enemy unit you want to attack, rather one must send the chariots through a unit to a spot behind it).
Chariot archers are a quite nice trade-off between melee power and missile power. The unit has got fewer archers (two-thirds of the unit has bows), but, unlike horse archers, are able to fight chasers.
I generally find it best to attack chariots with heavy cavalry (and lots of them). You can catch the chariot and your massed charge means the chariots will drop like flies. Chasing chariots with infantry is not an option, and archers seem to not deal quickly enough with their numbers.

they are overpowered, like any horse archer. i passed half the map through enemy territory with 3 light chariots(Britons) and lost 10 men in total.

I think a warband is a bigger danger to me then chariots.
The only thing there good for me in my view is the chuckle factor of a tide of chariots charging into a wall of arrows and javelins then half of it turning to run while the other half runs into a double line of heavy infantry and gets rammed from behind my cavalry half a second latter.
The worst battle i had was with britain i faced 11 chariot units with 5 hastati 2 prince 3 velites and 6 equite units.

I lost about 35 hestati 15 prince and about 5 equites they had 3 survivors when there charge shatter when hit by hestati and velite spears just before they hit my line and were immediately surrounded by infantry on all side's and massacared while the general alone was hit by all 6 units of equites from all side's at once and shattered almost instantly and was wiped out half a second later.
I am the shadow, and the smoke in your eyes I am the ghost, that hides in the night.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender.

    " The dark is generous.
Its first gift is concealment: our true faces lie in the dark beneath our skins, our true hearts remain shadowed deeper still. But the greatest concealment lies not in protecting our secret truths, but in hiding from the truths of others.
The dark protects us from what we dare not know.
Its second gift is comforting illusion: the ease of gentle dreams in night’s embrace, the beauty that imagination brings to what would repel in the day’s harsh light. But the greatest of its comforts is the illusion that dark is temporary: that every night brings a new day. Because it’s the day that is temporary.
    Day is the illusion.
Its third gift is the light itself: as days are defined by the nights that divide them, as stars are defined by the infinite black through which they wheel, the dark embraces the light, and brings it forth from the center of its own self.
With each victory of the light, it is the dark that wins.

The dark is generous, and it is patient.
It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt.
The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout.
The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them, and it waits behind the star that gives them light.
    The dark’s patience is infinite.
    Eventually, even stars burn out.

The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins.
It always wins because it is everywhere.
It is in the wood that burns in your hearth, and in the kettle on the fire; it is under your chair and under your table and under the sheets on your bed. Walk in the midday sun, and the dark is with you, attached to the soles of your feet.
The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.

The dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins – but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back.
Love is more than a candle.
    Love can ignite the stars."

Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end.

    You began the war.

I am going to end it!

Warband is a bigger danger? They get positively raped by a cavalry charge!(:

and they're morale is appalling, always amusing when playing as Rome (and with mods) with pila on fire at will mode then watching the first wave of enemies immediately rout as their front ranks have been butchered. On Roma Surrectum I destroyed 25% of the enemy doing that, then most of them than away and got swept away by cavalry. I think I lost 10 men?
