OK guys Im having an issue here... Im losing power and my tower just shuts off. Im sure Im having an overheating problem. I thought it was the PS but replaced it and it still does it. Then I bought a water cooler for the CPU and it still does it. I think my cards are over heating. My rig

AMD Phenom II x6 T Processor
    16 GB of Ram
    64 bit Operating system
Dual Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 tis( SLI Mother board)
    Direct X 10

I run all at max graphics and it should handle it right?

    Thanks!

Have you run Speedfan or PCWizard or HWMonitor to find out what your temps really are?

Have you checked your voltages? It maybe something out of your control like the wall socket, or the power company. If you are using a power strip, replaced it recently? Long shot but has happened.

It only does it when I play Napoleon and the civil war mod for empire. Other games are no problem. My rig should b able to handle the game on max graphics right?

This game can be a "stress test" just beause of the 3d graphics engine it uses. Push everything to max, it will run hotter. Now, what are your "idle" temps and "ingame" temps?

I have seen as much as a 20C increase playing ETW on my gpu when I want to push it.

going between turns it is around 35-40, I havent checked it in game. give me a few minutes and I will tell you. I was thinking about buying a box fan to help cool the inside.

the temp was at 56 then shortly after it cut off

It could be over 70 easy, then, just before cut off, even though the cards' max temp should be higher..

How long have you had the SLI setup? Have you cleaned the dirt out between the cards?

A cutoff like that can be motherboard related as some boards do have a builtin temp kill switch nowadays.

could the mother board be causing it? hmmm thats interesting
I upgraded the whole PC running SLI for about 6 months. I didnt have this issue before, although I couldnt run max graphics before due to the processor

It's back to heat or a short in the board, then, and the only clues are voltage and temp readings.

If it's a heat source the sensors will give a clue whine(s).

If it's voltage related, there should be a spike on one of the rails, whether, 5v, 3.3v, 12v, or even cpu.

so... you think it might be the MB?

oh yeah I run the MSI after burner to check temps for the video cards

There is that chance if you had no problems before changing the cpu and adding the new card. Check the temp on the cpu since changing it? If the thermal grease is not good, it will heat, too. Check all your fans since the upgrade to be sure one's not dying?

    There are many possibilities.

I changed everything in the tower MB, cards, cpu, ram the whole deal, lol. The Nvidia and Msi forums reccomended the same thing as far as specs

You still have npt posted anything definitive as in a pic of the temps and/or voltages before the crash.

Have you run Memtest to test the ram at least five passes? Possibly a bad stick.

Have you run furmark against your SLI? If it can handle it, it can handle the best out there.

New builds are always nice but there can be a RMA in the works every so often. These parts are made by humans.

If my 2 video cards are over heating can I combat that somehow without lowering my in game settings. Maybe i could get some type of cooler. I heard I could go and buy a small box fn and put it beside my case and it will keep it cool

I have a small desk fan sitting here waiting for summer for mine. When summer hits here, the case side will come off and it will be turned on so yes, it has been known to help.

Would you mind posting a pic of your temps and voltages?

Those temps say it's not the cards. What's the cpu temp under the same load?

It started getting warm when the gpu usage spiked and did not back off any until usage went down and then started creeping back up. The second card is running about 4C warmer than the other so I would assume it is under the first one. Airflow problem?

What is the cpu temp at the same time?
