Default How to educate generals ?

    Hi, I generally have generals with poor traits and bad command skills. I want to improve my generals with education in settlements. But there are things that I am not sure ;

    1) I place my "military minded" generals in castles and "administ. minded" generals in cities. Is this correct ? I think that buildings like school, library, madrasa, town hall are needed for education but castles don't have such buildings, so could my generals in castles still have good education ? To put it in another way, do buildings like bowyer, blacksmith, barracks provide education ?

    2) Is there any kind of education strategy to make my general obtain command stars and possibly more movement points ?

    3) How important is age for education ? Should I immediately send my 15 years old family members to castles and cities to take education ? Or education in 30s may produce similar results ?

    4) And finally, what is the number of average education length needed to obtain good traits ?

    Thanks for answers.

Looks like you're basically doing it right, administratively minded generals go to cities with educational buildings (I think those are just schools and libraries), militarily minded generals go to castles (I think the castle itself is the educational building there, barracks etc. don't seem to do anything).
You should send your family members in those settlements as soon as they are of age and keep them there until they're in their early-mid twenties. In my Crusader States campaign that usually results in Bachelor of Arts and Standard/Advanced Military Education at the age of 25.

I always thought that town halls were also providing education. It seems that I was mistaken.

Don't take my word for it, I could be mistaken. What I wrote is just the way I think it works. Either way, building town halls certainly won't hurt you, they do have a nice growth and trade bonus.

Between spawning and 21 years of age they have a bigger chance to gain education from these buildings.
Highest on the beginning of course, than it drops until "normal"... try to let them beeing born in the settlement you want the education line from!
But getting education is possible always!

    But for pagans itīs different:
You have to put your general outside a settlement somwhere in the countryside and do not move him!
Just wait ( while not moving him ) until he is 21!
They only have one education line!

I don't believe that the city infrastructure itself educates characters or adds traits except for the school/library building lines but advanced levels in the other building lines do appear to increase the chance of getting certain powerful ancillaries as opposed to traits.

I don't have the list of what buildings have a chance of adding which ancillaries in front of me at the moment but I'm fairly sure that the town hall controls several good ancillaries like the Overseer (which is incredibly useful in growing settlements) which makes educating characters in settlements with built up infrastructure worthwhile.

Also, don't build the inn/brothel line of buildings in your education cities. This also applies after your generals education because will develop alcohol, gambling, corrupt trait lines which affect command, administration. It also doesn't help if your trying to maintain a dynasty "of the blood" because a lot of these traits are hereditary and some of the children will be bastards. If you are going to use spies and assassins I would suggest to choose one city specifically for this and develop it to get the Assassins guild or the Thieves guild.

this has been bugging me a lot. I first was confused about how generals gain the military education (thought they would learn it at a school by studying tactics!) but now i know it is in castles!

But I am still confused about two things. One, i can't find any traits that is for administative duties from learning at schools. Can anyone point me to one?

Second, in the release of this mod it had some traits for the faction leader but I have never seen any of them. Anyone else ever see them?

Don't quite get your first question, do you mean the administrative education like Bachelor of Arts?

I just remembered that while playing today. I must say I am quite stupid!

Thank you for that link, it helps a lot!

I think I deserve the absent minded trait for forgetting bachelor of arts and such...
