    Default New PC powerplay preview

Australian mag, PC powerplay have a new preview of MTW2. Only 1 new thing is included (well, new to me anyway) but its still an interesting read non the less. With the lack of new info coming in here i though you might like it, so heres a brief summery:

Interview with Dan Toose - Game designer CA Australia

*Individual units do different attack combos & gain momentum. If the defender blocks & counters at the right time he can turn the tide.

*Banners will be different for all units and will also flash different colors to indicate the units status.

*Weather is dynamic - dont expect a downpour before every storm

*players will be able to shape general into what they want much better than rtw, eg chivalry & dread making epic 'good vs evil' clashes

*Enhanced diplomacy, giving better feedback on other factions & keeping memory of things like betrayals etc.

*RPG elements: vices & virtues have been expanded, especially for agents. They are more like characters now & are treated like 'heroes' so your able to keep them longer & customise them more. If you are given a mission by the Council of Nobles to say, assassinate the king of another faction, this would be a particuly tough job, so he might earn equipment like a prototype handgun or false documents that let him infiltrate. If you use one skill over & over again, like in oblivion, he get better at it. There’s also a reasons not to go down one road to hard as you might end up corrupt, or a goody two shoes, which both have plusses & minuses.

*The campaign map is being kept secrete for now

    ...........................................................

That’s it. the only new thing i saw there was that you can now gather equipment, like hand guns, which definitely appeals to me! What do you guys think?

It also included some new pictures that are not on the web, and in particular there’s an awesome shot of French heavy cavalry charging English arches & getting F*&ed up by the spikes planted in the ground. This tells me that the either the AI is dumb enough to charge into them, or the person handling them made a big mistake. I wish i could scan them for you, but there’s an anti-scanning policy in place here i believe.

    hope you enjoyed it

    cheers
    mike

Spikes in the ground, are Caltrops. I'll have to buy PC power play, and have a look. =)

The new "Hero" System for agents sounds very interesting. Sounds like a big improvement over "Omg 9 eyes" or "Omg 9 scrolls."

What does that mean, gather up equipment from the dead after the battle? Did it say where it goes or what you do with it. Sounds like a neat feature I would just like to known a little more about it.

I think he is talking about the sharpened wooden stakes. Caltrops are different and if they where used by the longbowmen they would have been throw in front of or around the stakes.

"caltrops (a four pointed metal spike, which when dropped on the ground would always land with one spike upwards)."

Yeap your right Reiksmarshal, its wodden spikes.

The equipment i think is only for your agents. SO im guesing that if you accept a mission for example, an assasination, they will give you a handgun to help you carry it out (which will increase your stats). Im guessing its going to be handeld in the same way as retinute (spelling?) (the guys that hang around you, eg mathmatician, slave trader etc) and you will be able to trade them between your agents.

More things ive noticed from the pics:

*They have made the spears look much more realistic, no more 10 ft think fence poles that you can see from outerspace, like in earlier pics (and mtw & rtw) but proper thin & long wodden shafts. there are a few earlier pic of these old spears.

*The pics show quite alot of clipping errors (eg, old mateys spear goign though his mates head) & ive got a feelign they arnt going to get rid of them.

*there are still alot of facial repetition. either the english army was all spawed from the same whench or they are just an damb ugly nations with the same retarted nose (no offence ment to you poms). Even so, it does add to the effect of the middle ages, they really do look the part.

*clothes are much more varied. leather straps here & there, stitching, differnet coloours etc. Also in the article they talked about torn clothes, split shields (from a sword i imagine) & missing helmuts etc, but im not so sure if he was telling porkie pies or not as i didnt see any of that in the screenies

*also just the general look of the game is amazing, there is this one up close pic of some french spearmen marching & if you squint, they look totaly real. zooming into battles are going to be awsome in this game !

    ^^^ no.

Your agents, spys and assasins etc... can earn special things that will let them do their job better.

Its the exact same as in RTW and MTW, except this time instead of your assasin earning "exotic slave +health" its going to be "prototype handgun +1 attack"

Hmm missing helmets? Doubtful...and even if they were included, would look a little wierd to see one suddenly disappear...

i think its as the battle goes on, the units of men that have fought will start to look muddy and bloody, i think its just purly a skin and texture change instead of actual helmits disapear
Im hopin they are keepin the campaign map a secret because its goin to be a big surprice instead of it not finshed yet

In a german magazin with the same name PC Powerplay (german), was a video with the Campaign Map. I have not seen the video yet, put some posters of the german Forum where I´am.
They say the campaign is neraly the same as rome, but in the video you could see szenes of croup recruiting and a window where you see something of the Influens of the pope.

For all who can understand german, here the German thread where some posters describe the map:

Thanks mate. And I got it today, very good issue. The preview is pretty good IMO (haven't been checking all the news lately so most of it was refreshing), here are a couple of other things I spotted (not sure how much you guys already know):

*No longer 1 turn-1 unit recruitment in settlements. They weren't very specific in saying how it'll work, Dan Toose just said:
"If you have thousands and thousands of men sitting around, an endless treasury, and you have a big military training centre set up, why shouldn't you be able to throughput lots of men?"

*Expanding on the weather thing, heavily armoured units will be very slow in wet and muddy conditions.

*"massively detailed city models and the correspondingly complex damage systems"

The RPG system sounds good in particular, Dan Toose describing the management of your agents and characters as "personality management".

In the German PC Powerplay artikel was written, that on the Campaign Map the textures resolution is doubled and that you get a acoustic info when you scroll over the landscape/specific regions.

    I agree there.

Being told to take a settlement in 10 turns that is completely across the map was rather irritating.
