    Default Political manifestos

    1. In your country do you have countries releasing party political manifestos of what they will do when you elect them?

    2. Are they adhered to?

    If yes great.

    If no:

    3. Examples of gross negligence of campaign promises

    4. Do you even bother looking at them now you have seen there worth?

    5. Do you see a point to them and what are the implications towards democracy if their promises are worth nothing, is this kind of democracy just a gamble?

Well this is my point. Labour lied through there teeth and there is absolutely no reason to believe any of the other parties would not do the same.

Therefore how do you decide how to vote? Past performance does not work as there are different figures involved now. Ideologies rapidly shift these days, and rightly so as they conform to the current market trends and political climates. You basically gamble on who you think will do the best for your country which is in my opinion not a good way for democracy to function.

On the lords reform, to be fair to them, they are trying. It is a seriously contentious issue and they are still trying to find a common ground which everyone can agree on with some certainty of passing. I actually agree with the labour backbench revolt, I do not want to see the last 92 ejected. At least it maintains some degree of individuality and lack of bias to the lords.

how about basing it on things like mission statements, statements of belief, the attitude and general image of the leader, and use the manifesto as a rough guide to their policies...

Manifesto as a rough guide to their policies?

Labour pledged not to increase taxes successively in different manifestos and under them we have seen the biggest rise in taxes under any government in history from a tax revenue of roughly £260 billion to something like £430 billion in a decade.
