    Default The Coen Brothers

In my opinion the Coen Brothers are some of the most interesting, brilliant, creative filmmakers in the history of the business. Their dark and sometimes dry sense of humor is so refreshing when compared to all the generic crap that is being made today. This post is for those out there (if there are any) who love these movies as well.

Heres a run down on the great films the Coen Brothers have given us.

    Blood Simple (1984)
    Raising Arizona (1987)
    Miller's Crossing (1990)
    Barton Fink (1991)
    The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)
    Fargo (1996)
    The Big Lebowski (1998)
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) *way underrated imo, great film*
    Intolerable Cruelty (2003)
    The Ladykillers (2004)

Now these are only the films that they have directed. Their writing credits go far beyond this. But ALL these movies I love. The Coen Bros. style of filmmaking just fits me like a glove. Any other Coen Bros fans around here? If so, lets discuss! :original:

Have'nt seen al of them, but the ones I have seen are mostly brilliant. I especially like Fargo, and the Big Lebowski, the latter being a box office fiasko, why?

Most people just didnt get it when it was released in theaters. However it now has one of the biggest cult followings of any film made in the last decade. They even hold an annual Lewbowski fest. ---> http://www.lebowskifest.com/

And yes, Fargo was brilliant, I'd go so far as to call it a masterpiece of modern cinema.

The Big Lebowski, Oh Brother, Fargo. How can you go wrong? The Coen bros. are awesome. I'm one of those cult followers of The Big Lebowski (in that I've seen it many, many times). I've never been to Lebowski-fest, though. If I do, I'm definitely dressing up as a severed toe.

I've seen all their movies at least twice. Yes they are the most consistantly brilliant filmakers in the US at the moment, and I'mwilling to forget Ladykillers. (It bloes the mind that they did this...).

I saw Blood Simple in Greece aeons ago, and I still remember discussing with my mate that he (we thought there is one Coen only) is a major hope for the future.

It is very hard for me to choose a movie from the ones you posted (I think you left out intolerable cruelty). My mind will go to Barton fink their most European movie while my heart between Lebowfski (shut up... Donny!) and Fargo. On second thought Fargo is the true American epic. I don't think they can go beyond that...

Doh! I did forget Intolerable Cruelty. I'm the same, it's impossible for me to pick a favorite, but Barton Fink is definately up there at the top. The way they capture the shear dread of John Turturro's character while living in that sureal Hotel room is pure magic on film.

heres some news on their next film Hail Caesar! : the comedy about a 1920s theater troupe that stages a production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. The project is reportedly being viewed by the Coens as a completion of their Clooney-topped "idiot trilogy."
