    Icon1 Command Ability

    Do some exceptional or elite units have command ability? I was fighting a battle as the HRE vs France and my general died, I managed to kill the enemy general but the enemy still didn't rout. The only had 3 cavalry units left, 1 depleted imperial knights unit and 2 men at arms units, all of which had suffered heavy casualties. All of them were exhausted, and my men at arms were charging the last of their infantry, when my imperial knights routed. I have seen something similar to this happen a couple times.

    In the EDU, Imperial Knights have the 'knight' attribute, so maybe that has something to do with it? Also, if both generals died, then morale was possibly made more equal between the armies, but in the end your army succumbed to fatigue and heavy losses sooner than the enemy.

    ai gets morale bonus on levels above m/m, which means if you lose your general your more likely to rout than the ai.

    If your general died, you were at an equal disadvantage as the AI. If you play above normal, the AI also gets a morale boost. Some units do indeed have exceptional stamina and morale, and can last longer and fight to fewer men without routing. As HRE you are without as many professional units so you rely more on generals to keep morale up for your infantry and nonelites.

    The knight attribute is to give them the trait "may charge without orders" so that not it. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

    No, "impetuous" gives them that.

    The HRE has many professional units, so I don't know where you're getting that from.

    If they had "command", you'd have seen it in the unit description.

    "Exceptional" units will have "command" in the next RR/RC.

    @k/t

    That must be where I got the idea from.

    When your general dies and you have heavy losses any unit is in danger of routing when flanked or far from support if it is not elite.
