Seleucids
Overview
The Seleucid Empire is a branch off from Alexander's once lengthy empire. The Seleucid Dynasty reaches from Asia Minor to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, bordering the Parthian Empire (Persians). It has four war fronts, with a potential fifth (Greek). The four fronts are:
- Egyptians
- Parthians
- Pontus
- Armenians
The Seleucid Empire starts off at a relatively hostile situation, but if one can twist it around, then it can become one of the wealthiest empires in the entire game, alongside the Mediterranean powers. As if to support this goal, it also hosts a wide foster of units, stretching from pikemen to standard infantry, cavalry to elephants. Wielding their power takes a degree of skill, but guaranteed to bring satisfaction to those who play them.
Recommended Units
The Seleucids excel at unit composition. They have javelins and archers, pikes and hand to hand infantry, cavalry to elephants, elephants to chariots. What more can you ask for? The most recommended units early game are Levy Pikemen and Phalanx Pikemen. Both work extremely well, but Phalanx Pikemen actually have a normal morale and armor. Levy Pikemen are technically peasants wielding sarrissas.
A standard composition for the Seleucids (that is effective), would be 2 skirmishers, 4 archers, 5 pikemen, two legionares, 6 cavalry units, one elephant group, and some chariots.
Why would I recommend such a large army? To be honest, I don't. During campaign, if you fight the battles with your own hand then you can literally win battles that are completely imbalanced, (like 5000 against 1000). I just offered a very decent army for all around purpose. Very difficult army to manage, as not all cities can replenish your lost troops, but it is indeed flexible.
To be continued.
