    Default Steam..

So I know its been asked a million times and Ive read through like 10 threads about this already but nothing works.

I have RTW:Gold with Steam and Ive installed EB 1.1 and patched it to 1.2. I installed the Trivial script and set it to Single Player. Afterwards I created a shortcut with the target path:

    "D:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 4760 -show_err -nm -mod:eb -ne" (obviously without the "")

However I still get the "Failed to find Steam." error message.

I also tried adding the "-mod:eb -show_err" directly to the shortcut in the steam library but that didn't work either.

So yeah Im sorry for making a thread about this when there's been so many others but I didn't want to necro anything and nothing I've read has helped at all.

    This is my shortcut,
    ".....\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 4760 -show_err -mod:eb
, if you are sure that the " are placed right your could try
    - running Steam with admin-rights
    - disabling protection software while playing

Vanilla RTW on Steam loads fine?

Is D:\Steam your default location for Valve's games or is it a junction or similar?

It is indeed my default location. I have a separate hard drive for Steam. (Which is D).

Well, a junction link might have explained this behavior of Steam.
Did Valve's support forums gave anything useful about this kind of error?

Do you have Steam running in the background while starting the modified shortcut to EB?

Haven't checked Valve's support forum since the error can't be at their end. Everything else I have on Steam works perfectly fine, including Rome. It's only when using this mod that the error presents itself.

And yes I have Steam running when I use the link.

I too got the "Failed to Launch Steam" error after 1) removing previously stated additions to the launch options in the properties menu on the game's listing in my Steam library and 2) installing the 1.2 patch.

I've uninstalled EB and am now reinstalling 1.1. Will make proper additions to properites > launch options and try again. If it works, I'll just play without the patch.

Please post here if it works. I am also willing to play without the patch if that's the only way I can play the mod.

After installing EB 1.2 with three different Steam builds I could not recreate this kind of error, did you happen to find a solution here?

Never did find a solution no. Have to admit I kinda gave up and decided to wait for EBII instead.

God damn it! After playing for 3 hours, taking a break with Kingdoms of Amalur, and then trying to play the game again. The same old "Failed to find Steam" error has returned!

    Blast!

Do you have other programs running? Take a look at task manager for Steam run games.
