Ptolemies vs Carthage?

I'm sure we've all experienced the relentless spam-fest that is Carthage vs AS/Ptollies in the Libyan desert/around Kyrene. My question is, did the Ptolemies and Carthage ever face off against each other IRL? I can't seem to find any evidence of such, but it seems unlikely that they had no contact whatsoever. So does anyone know?

I know that Ptolemies were very specific in not intruding in the first Punic war and I think this was on Rome's behalf. Carthage asked the Ptolemies for help but they refused.

It's strange that I never experienced aggression from the other while playing Carthage or Ptolemies. In my Carthaginian campaign, Ptolemies were ravaged by Seleucids so I took an army into Egypt, took from the Seleucids what they took and gave it back to the Ptolemies. After that, I retreated since my single African stack would not have been able to hold off all those phalanx-only stacks the Seleucids were sending into Egypt. I wanted a strong Egypt at my back. Didn't work, the Ptolemies are on their knees again. Looks like I will have to open another front...

I guess you used forced diplomacy to give them back their cities? I can never succed at giving cities to the AI as a gift...

I always use forced diplomacy. Keeps the headaches away.

I remember my Roman campaign where I wanted to fight with Pahlava but Pahlava was getting eaten by Ptolemies (Seleucids were history long ago). So I used forced diplomacy to get the Persian provinces from the Ptolemies and gave them to Pahlava, along with the income from all the buildings I demolished that Pahlava didn't need, which resulted in 50k gold.

I think the Ptolemies had it all back five years later.

It's sad, how the Seleucids usually get eaten by the Ptollies, because they didn't guard Antioch. But this has been most evident in vanilla. After changing to use BI engine, I haven't had the same problem.

Its 50/50 actually. As you said It depends on who controls Antioch, If AS have it Grey Death forms. If Egyptians have it Yellow Death happens.
