    Default Worth it?

Is this mod all it's cracked up to be? So far I've gone through nothing but trouble for this. It's maddening. So can anyone, honestly, without much bias, tell me if this is worth it? I mean I enjoy Third Age, however this looks even better with all the factions........just the install in overly complex in every way it seems. BTW i'm trying to get 1.4.4 to work atm, as it seems to have the easiest instal so far.

1.44 is worth it. The install is not that difficult if you use Gigantus version. I have 64 bit and never had a single problem. I average about 1 CTD per 20 turns so there are still a few but not campaign breaking for me. If you use alot of submods the installs can get complicated but the base Gigantus version is good and pretty stable with all the included factions. There are a few times knowing some console commands helps but its not totally necessary.

If you have any experience of Warhammer or just want something darker and a bit less defined than Third Age its quite fun. IE- in Third Age I get bored because all the good factions are so good, all the evil are truly evil etc. It is more fun to play Sylvania or Orcs which aren't totally evil and a bit more nuanced as well the rosters are very diverse and in my opinion more interesting than Third Age although there are some cool units there too.

We all went through a couple of years of maddening CTD's with this mod. Some like me stuck it out because it was warhammer and the potential was there for the best mod for medieval 2, while we've seen many regular posters just disappear from this mod's forum.

If you want the best gameplay and stability, download Gigantus' 1.44 torrent. It will lack some of the new content, but also far more stable and better overall gameplay than 1.5, because, IMO, the devs went overboard with the stats and some scripted armies in 1.5. Until some campaign mods are released for 1.5 and Gigantus works his magic on stability again, 1.5 might turn off a lot of people from getting into the mod. I know if I felt the need to play a campaign right now I'd be loading up the 1.44 mod folder.

Yes, I am biased because I love the mod, even though there's lots about it I don't like and am changing myself. But if it wasn't worth it I would have uninstalled a long time ago and never looked back.

Is it sometimes frustrating - yes (mainly because of the technical difficulties), is it worth playing - hell yes! As the guys above suggested, play the Gigantus 1.44 ver, it's extremely stable and almost CTD free. Also, once you get the hang of things, browse the submods topic and try the great mods found there, some of them are incredibly useful and fun. By that time we will hopefully have a stable 1.5 ver. Good gaming!

Try 1.4.4 first as the other members said and be amazed. This mod is totally unique! Be sure to use the voicemod by galloper and ninja51.

Like many others have stated the 1.4.4 version with Gig's installer is simply awesome...I myself will wait until like many others have said Gig "works his magic" hehe...I have plenty of other games and what not to keep my occupied till then!

But if you have not played it at all..I would not wait for Gig's 1.5 version...I'd say go play it right now (The 1.4.4 version with Gig's installer that is)

It is most certainly worth it. Possibly the best mod ever made, it's indisputiably the most under-rated and unjustly obscure.

What I love about this mod is how unique it feels. It doesn't play like Total War at all. It's a revelation after a dozen mods full of "armoured sergeants (by a different name) fighting feudal knights (by a different name)" and full of the same progression of "fight rebels, rush enemy heartland, fight a couple field battles and a lot of sieges (but never defensive ones, you're always attacking) and become so powerful the only danger to your kingdom is the player getting bored and quitting."

Third Age Total War actually is the mod that most suffers from this, i.m.o. It's the best looking mod I've ever played, it has the strongest atmosphere I've had the pleasure to experience. And it bores me to tears. The factions have very sparse and uninteresting rosters of the type "cheap skirmisher, spear militia, basic infantry, elite infantry, light cavalry, heavy cavalry" with one unit representing each type. And the campaigns quickly become a chore fighting endless same-ish stacks.

"Call of Warhammer" on the other hand... is glorious madness. So many things happening at once, so much chaos. (appropriately enough) The amount of units you have is staggering, allowing you to field all kinds of armies with all kinds of flavours. (Especially as Empire, but no single faction has a boring roster.) On the campaign map, no sooner is the first crisis momentarily dealt with than the next three rear their ugly heads. And when you do finally beat Archaon and his hordes... well, the sense of accomplishment still hasn't faded for me.

Haha, I've been attacked by one of the Empires buddies twice, and the dwarves have attacked Drakenhof twice with me just swarming them with undead minions. GO ZOMBIES!! BRING ME THEIR BONES!

Eh....I was a fan of LoTR before Warhammer so it will always have a special place, but in terms of combat it really good. TO BLOOD KEEP! xD
