Default EU Funding IRA shrine at the Maze

European funding for Maze conflict resolution centre

European funding of £18m has been approved for building the contentious conflict resolution centre on the site of the former Maze prison.
The peace building project is set to be confirmed in the coming weeks as part of a £300m redevelopment of the 350-acre site near Lisburn.
Unionist critics say the planned centre will be a shrine to IRA prisoners.
But supporters argue that the project will create thousands of jobs.
The application for the European Peace Three money was submitted in January 2011 and confirmed - with conditions - in December.
A firm financial offer reached the office of the first and deputy first minister last week.
The money comes from the same European fund that provided £13m for the Peace Bridge over the River Foyle in Londonderry. (a great success )

What does Jim have to say about it?

Shameful Maze Shrine a step closer

    02 February 2012

TUV Leader Jim Allister has reacted to news that the EU Commission has approved £18m for the Maze Shrine as ‘a Provo victory’ delivered through the complicity of a roll-over DUP. “A few years ago the DUP vetoed the stadium because of the retention of the shrine buildings on the Maze site. Then, to keep Sinn Fein happy they fell into line by agreeing a so called Conflict Transformation Centre which will incorporate the very buildings which stymied the stadium project.”
In a statement Jim Allister said:-
“The retention of the ugly prison buildings, by successive DUP ministers in DOE refusing to delist and demolish them, means the entire site, including its worthwhile aspects, like economic development and housing, will be blighted and tainted by the so called “Conflict Transformation Centre” – official speak for the Maze Shrine. If a ‘Conflict Transformation Centre’ is thought to be necessary, why does it have to be at the Maze? Clearly, because the intent is to allow the incorporated prison buildings to facilitate the terror fest aspect of this Provo project. Thereby, the entire site will be blighted.
“The real intent is further underlined by the fact that OFMDFM has agreed ex-prisoners will serve on the Corporation Board. There, no doubt, to guarantee its terror credentials. If this was a genuine economic development project there wouldn’t be a terrorist about the place, but, instead, in both the construction of the Board and of the eventual edifice we will see the terrorist presence. Yet another IRA/Sinn Fein triumph and DUP capitulation.
“While frontline services are being slashed, including A & E departments, it is full steam ahead with the Maze Shrine project, whose funding was ring-fenced in the DUP/Sinn Fein budget while everything else was cut, and now it is the priority for scarce EU resources.”

Do you actually believe the BS you are babbling about or are you just trolling? In germany you can get fined for lieing on very known and elaborated topics everyone knows you are lieing about. If you think that the same as locking up someone to subdue Freedom of Speech you got dumped with bath water and sorry if you don't know that metaphor.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

Next thing we know there is an anglican priest who will burn down a keg of Guinness. Now that would be a hate crime.

I wanted to say "Only in the UK could a monument to resolving conflict and coming together be construed as a 'shrine' to terrorism" but then you posted this.

Shame they're wasting EU resources on this but I guess the DUP are to blame for caving in, eh Sharpe's Company?

considering that both republican and loyalist prisoners were housed there, if it is done tastefully it may not be a bad thing. Anything would be better than a football stadium, as can be witnessed to in Egypt.

Oh look, no bias in this thread whatsoever.

It just ticks so many boxes - all that's missing is a Daily Mail article.

Johnny Adair and his uvf killing squad were kept there also.I would knock it down and build a hospital myself but do the unionists not think its also a shrine to their men who were locked up.I know they had a easier time with drugs and food and treatment and visets than the IRA had but still both sides can have a peace shrine??
Better than giving our money to the banks i suppose.Which is all we do lately.

The DUP seem to be fine with it, so no issue from me.
