Most of them are under construction (for ME2:K) so you need to wait . You have War of the Silmarils (sub-mod for TATW), the First Age Total War and the Last Alliance Total War .

Lord of the Rings Total War: It's essentially TATW for RTW Alexander. They are even in the process of integrating custom cities (harder to do in RTW)

Fourth Age Total War: Game set in...well that's obvious. It's more lore-centric, with the creators aspiring to get the gameplay, units, and such as close as lore accurate as possible to the books, such as no plate mail.

lol my bad. I went back and forth between saying whether or not to say something along the lines of highest armor is chain mail or no plate armor and I kind of got a hybrid statement.

You should try the MMO Lord of the ring online. its free to play now and new expansion Fall 2012 Riders of Rohan.

Its has the full map of Middle earth and all settlements and if you ask any person who plays MMOs they will tell you it has the best ground combat of all the MMOs. and graphic up full are outstanding,

It has one of the friendliest community's of all the MMOs everyone is willing to help one another. Just like these forums I guess.

LotRO does not have the full map of Middle-earth, nor does it have all settlements.

LotRO features Eriador and has managed to dip its toes in Mirkwood and Isengard. The Shire, Annuminas, Fornost, Bree, Barrow-Downs, Archet, Combe, Staddle, Weathertop, Rivendell, Golbin-town, Moria, Caras Galadhon, Dol Goldur, and Isengard are currently the notable settlements featured in the game. Development has slowed atrociously in the past two years so I wouldn't hold your breath if you plan on investing time and money in the game and expect to see Gondor any time soon. The devs have even confirmed that in the next expansion they won't even be bringing us to the Hornburg yet. They're dragging their feet for as long as possible, it seems.

From a lore perspective, the game is enjoyable to a certain degree, but there are obvious breaks (more breaks the further you go into the game--the wizard and sith classes are unforgivable breaks, for starters, and then later you ride giant goats). Sometimes Turbine is creative with keeping the lore in mind (Forochel) and sometimes they were just smoking something awful (Hobbit-orc villages in Enedwaith).

Fourth Age TW is the most Tolkien-orientated mod out there, and the most "polished" among the TW ones.
The Last Days of Middle Earth is a good one too, but on a game that doesn't support much entertainment

Middle-earth Roleplaying mod for TESIV: Oblivion is under development

recently they finally completed the map and switched to TESV Skyrim. They have a long way to go, but once it's done the mod would be fun to play

To play the Devil's Advocate(not the forum member ofc), they have been in development for half dozen years or so, and they switched from Morrowind to Oblivion and then Skyrim , but honestly, it's the mod I wait for the most, together with EB II and FATW
