Default The Cottage of Caedmon the Healer

This is the house of the renowned healer and physician Caedmon Black. If your wife is in labour, come here and he will see what he can do.

In GSTK in order to continue on our characters legacy we have a simple childbirth system to enable players to have approved heirs for their wealth, items, lands and titles. In order to request a birth roll simply post here indicating the level of physician you desire.

    - Frequency

As a rule a character may only request a childbirth/adoption roll once every 1 real weeks. Only mains or rolled auxes may request a roll.

    - Costs and Chances

The below costs represent not only the cost of the birth, but other expenses such as the doctor travelling to your home to deliver the child etc. There are two chances, first a chance for the wife’s survival during the birth and a second for the child’s survival. A roll is also performed to determine the gender of the child.

No Physician (literally on your own without medical assistance) - Free
    Chance of Wife's survival: 12/20
    Chance of Child's survival: 10/20

    Poor Physician - 1500 Crowns
    Chance of Wife's survival: 14/20
    Chance of Child's survival: 12/20

    Average Physician - 3000 Crowns
    Chance of Wife's survival: 16/20
    Chance of Child's survival: 14/20

    Renown Physician - 5000 Crowns
    Chance of Wife's survival: 18/20
    Chance of Child's survival: 16/20

King's Physician (reserved only for... Guess who?) - Free
    Chance of Wife's survival: 19/20
    Chance of Child's survival: 17/20

    - Adoption
In GSTK you might sometimes wish to adopt a child. Providing that it isn't the rolled child of another player. The following rolls are made depending on your station in life. These are to represent the risk of childhood disease. Any adoption is subject to the kings whim. So if he dislikes you adopting, he is within his rights to demand that they not take your family name (and thus unable to inherit). Adoptions are subject to the one week gap rule, just as births are.

Lower Class (Freedman or equivalent) - 10/20 chance of survival
Middle Class (Knight or equivalent) - 13/20 chance of survival
Upper Class (Baron/Earl or equivalent) - 15/20 chance of survival
Nobility (Dukes, Princes and Kings) - 16/20 chance of survival

In a rough field a few miles from the site of the battle of Hastings... Two women were in labour, being an odd coincidence they were also related... One being the mother in law, the other being the daughter in law... As they had been brought here in service of the Duke... They had no trained doctor on hand...

The Arch-Bishop wishes to adopt a young Saxon Child Priest-in-training he found abandoned by the Saxons and near starvation in a remote Abbey after the Norman invasion; the child is male and current 15 years old. He is brought to the healer to try and cure him of his shivers he had picked up from his isolation.

    Poor Physician - 1500 Crowns

A woman speaking only Danish came to a physician seeking aid: she was in labor, but no man was in sight. This was the wife of Aaron Hansen.

With the camp fires burning hard providing a constant supply of warm water, the Priest Physician (No Physician + Traits (+4) = Wifes Survival 16/20, Child Survival 14/20) prepared to deliver Elizabeths first born child...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As spring came so did another baby into the world... The Priest Physician (No Physician + Traits (+4) = Wife Survival 16/20, Child Survival 14/20) knelt down towards Sarah ready to deliver...

The King had no wife, his wife had died in labour of his last son, Philip. Richard had sworn form that time on never to take a wife again. But he still had some envolvement with a maid of his in the castle, Anne. She was now pregnant and Richard had her be taken to the KIng' s Phisician, under the cover of the night, in secrecy.

Emma, the wife of Roger, was with child in the early months of 1067. As her husband was away at war, she could only provide the physician with 1500 crowns.

    ONE DAY LATER...
Social Services Lady: Hello, would you like to adopt this boy?
    Harald: Yes.
SS Lady: Well, let's see. (rolls die) Oops, sorry, but I can't let you do that. You see, I rolled a 17 - you needed a 13 or less.
    Harald: Damn it.
SS Lady: See you in two years! Toodle-oo!
