I recently began playing EB again, and I decided to give the Getai a try. I am playing on Medium/Medium, because I remember when being swamped by Seleukids Stacks when I played Getai last. Yet as I started playing I realised how plain overpowered the Getai are. For instance, I took my starting army, and first captured Samisgethuzda, Kalatis and Naissos. Even the renowned Tribilli were no match for my simple skirmishers and archers. My skirmirshers could fight to exaustion and using their amazing stamina return to warmed up in just a little while. After retraining I took on the Scordisi and after two battles conquered them. I took Dalminion from Epirus, and now am making thousands and thousands that the elite troops are actually a good way to keep my Family members from being too lazy.
Which brings me to my next point, the Getai have Elites for just about every type of unit. Samisgethuzda can pump out blacksmithed, chevroned guys really easily. In comparison to a game as Epirotes without doing some crazy rushing the Greeks are probably weaker. Even their light cavalry all wear studded leather armor, which seems a bit extravagant. Dio Chrysostom, Orationes quote for the level 5 native barracks, that quote doesn't make it clear that all those different positions were part of the Getai army, rather what position the writer might have held, whether as a Greek or whatever. Which Oration is it from?
I do want to learn more about the Getai, and many of the descriptions hint at a really interesting history. Like what are the Tarabostes? Are they enemies of the Getai? How come you can recruit them, but the Komatai seem to be their enemies?
