How to get initial Adviser speech when restarting a campaign?

How can I get a campaign to give me the opening advice the 2nd time I start the campaign?

I played Venice a while ago for a few turns and stopped.
I want to start a new Venice campaign, but the Advice Lady won't give me the opening advice and show the locations of the Rebel Settlements.

I looked in the Options menu and checked the 'Reset Adviser' box, but it didn't do anything.

Did you set the advisor level to "tell me everything" before starting the campaign?
Anyway, seeing where the rebel settlements are is not that difficult - first of all, they´re pretty easy to find if you´ve studied the "starting positions map" which can be seen when you choose a faction. Secondly, you can just use the "toggle_fow" cheat to see the entire map anyway.

Yes, I set the adviser to tell me everything before starting.

There seems to be code and counters stored somewhere that remembers if you have played the campaign before, and if so, will not play the starting advice again.

That's part of the fun of being new player. I recommend you not to use cheats. Just move your armies around and explore, build watch towers in border edges and train spies.

It might not be it, but try change the line in the medieval2.preference.cfg to:

first_time_play = 1

You're right JD, in any case just delete the entire .cfg file, it will regenerate and then carry on further...
