    Icon14 Ceylon - Total War

Since you have already made Total war games for both Europe,Eastern Asia, America I would like you develop something for South Asia.
here are two great nations of South Asian region ,Srilanka and India but Srilanka was known as Ceylon till 1972. I know Empire total war covers between 1700 to 1799 both Ceylon and India but it's just a potion of History there are more even cause Srilankan history starts since 6BC and India is even more old. please read these two articles and get some basic ideas of both regions. this would be more epic since most of people have no idea about South Asian history. people still know little bit about Asia and I hope this would help to spread the knowledge to everyone. if it's possible you can expand the region to Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Tibet, and China. the state religions of these countries were Hindu and Buddhism.

as Units you can also include these great legendary warriors
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Giant_Warriors
they lived in Anuradhapura Kingdom (377 BC–1017)

Here are some things you can experiment with, thanks to Mr Gigantus, there is a map of India there, although when i had a look the picture had gone, but the download should be fine.

Let me say that i love this mod idea, a Total War game that would cover both Ceylon and South India would be really awesome

But, there was somebody here not too long ago who proposed an 'India: Total War' that would cover the rise of the Mughals in 16th century India....sadly not many people seemed interested in a pre-Empire Total War era India mod for Medieval 2, and im afraid that if thats the case a mod centered around Sri Lanka would have an even lesser chance...most people (Americans anyway) probably cant even point out Sri Lanka on a map (sadly)

This being said, let me ask you a question:

What are your modding skills? Do you have any skills in any software (photoshop, gimp, 3ds max, milkshape)? OR are you more interested in researching? (in which case ideally youd be quite knowledgable about Sri Lankan history )

The reason i ask is because a mod im working on right now (Nusantara Total War - a Southeast Asian modification) includes a Sri Lankan unit....i know its not much but eventually we plan on including the Arakan faction in Burma with its capital at Mrauk U, a 'sister city' of Trincomalee (indeed the kings of Arakan and Kandy shared a common ancestry, and many Sri Lankans lived in Mrauk U and many Rakhine peoples in Trincomalee )

So if you are knowledgable at all about Mrauk U/16th century Ceylonian history i encourage you to send me a PM, we could use your help even if just for the creation of the 1 Sri Lankan unit

I actually want to develop this for Empire Total War but I also have Medieval Total war though I am more interested to Empire Total War fully focus on South Asian region. I couldn't post this on Empire Total War section so I made here
currently I am implementing a faction for Ceylon with a single area with more units as a replacement for Kandyan rebels. Empire Total War was totally wrong about Kandyan rebels. in 18th century obviously only coastal areas were colonized rest of the country specially the center of the country was independent till 1815 until nobles betrayed the kings to Britain. the important thing is British has never conquered the entire country they only could took over the coastal areas from Dutch. but they tried once and failed only one was survive rest of the all British soldiers were killed and died because of Malaria
unlike other places Kandy is a mountain region. so it has few ways to access to the center of the country and most of those roads were blocked by people in Kandy. it was a Kingdom actually started in 15th century.

Nobles betrayed the king because of king's ruthless constitution. and he even killed a lot of nobles afraid of they take over his crown. eventually all nobles betrayed king to British because British showed more sympathy upon our people than the king. the last few kings in our country were Dravidian not the native Sinhalese so that's one of reasons people dislike him. country has a 2500 years of history. and it has been ruling by Sinhalese Kings and their religion is Buddhism obviously. but the last few Tamils kings were Hindus. so the religion unrest heavily affected on Kandyan. It's really hard to make just a faction for Ceylon because Ceylon has various small kingdoms in which impossible to place on the Campaign map because of the small size compare with the rest of world. but in 18th Century most of those kingdoms belonged to Dutch except the Kandy. so the only solution is implement either a mod or a new total war series for the entire South Asian region. then Srilanka can be made in large size with India.

The problem is that, put simply, the Empire Total War map is more or less impossible to mod. So if you really wanna make this mod for Empire Total War then you can definately do that, just learn how to/get some help with making changes to the db files, take a minor faction (like Inuit for example) and change their location to Ceylon, change their faction name, flag, and then add in some new units and there youd have your mod. The problem is that itd still have the same vanilla Empire TW map, except with a new faction on Ceylon region. Also note that Ceylon is 1 region and cant be divided up, so thatd be the sole faction controlling all of Ceylon.

Your alternative is to make this mod for Rome TW / Medieval 2 TW and make/have someone make a custom map, covering all of Ceylon and South India....you would get additional flexibilities doing it this way as well (use Rome TW BI engine and the europeans could start off as a horde, use Medieval 2 kingdoms engine and you get alot of cool features such as settlement names changing after being taken by the Europeans, or the 'apache technology stealing' feature from Americans campaign, just to name a couple)

Either way i wish you good luck with this project

By the way, those software skills are very useful in modding, especially photoshop + 3ds max. Id still like you to consider helping us make our Sri Lankan unit for Nusantara TW mod for Rome, if youre up for it

the only thing I hate is read long essay tutorials.
some people apparently made huge tutorials but the actually it can be easily compressed to couple of phrases.
what a waste of time.! hm... and the most of tools u found here really suck. people apparently forget about Quality Assurance part of their tools.
