    Default Generalised Histories and Guides

    Hi all,

This has probably been asked before but i'm asking for someone to point me in the direction of any good Generalised guides for the napoleonic era and the 18th century. i'm looking for overviews to keep as a reference guide on the shelf as my uni student budget won't stretch to lots of more detailed but restricted books. i am looking for these in regards to Army and navy, including structure, tactics and basic campaign history. One i'v already found is Cris McNabs Armies of the Napoleonic Wars. Does anyone know anything about this book?

    Cheers

As an alternative have a look at Philip J Haythornthwaite "The Napoleonic Source Book".

The first book I read on Napoleonic warfare was the 'Campaigns of Napoleon'. That was many years ago and the price was far less than the ridiculous amount I see on Amazon. There are many other decent books on the Amazon site however

I was thinking of getting the book on Quatre Bras which I've tried replaying in 15mm various times

These days the internet has millions of words, maps uniforms ,battles on the Napoleonic period. There's no real point buying expensive books when a quick search on google can provide almost anything
