So is that Menavlatoi unit wearing the same texture as Broken Crescent Skutatoi and Spathatoi? If I had both mods would I be able to move the texture and add it to the menavlatoi's modeldb entry to make the unit that looks that way? Or did you have to change it to fit the model?

Not really, no. The 3D model is different and has been mapped onto the textures differently. Textures also differ in nature and floor plan.

But what would you achieve ? Chain mail ? For functional reasons or just cosmetic ? As I wrote above, I started with chain mail, adjusting stats to heavier protection, but the unit was too strong - even able to destroy elite infantry with minimal losses.

Probably, menavlatoi were a very mobile, anticavalry force, supporting the battle line - they were supposed to quickly deploy, knock down the enemy with the menavlon and finish them off with their dagger - I doubt chain mail would make you any more effective at that ...

Yeah I get what you are saying. I was going to say to put the scutatoi texture on the sicillian vespers menavlatoi model and it could be sort of the base armour level of the unit and then it could be up graded to the SV mailed menavlatoi if you wanted different armour levels or something. And I also forgot that the BC Skutatoi textures are mixed mail and leather..I get your point about keeping them fairly mobile. Adding mail wouldn't add a lot of protection for what I would think would be their main threat- missile weapons. Their long polearms would be enough to keep other threats away.. By the way, does SV have its own combat and balance system or does it use RR/RC or what?

    Working om armor upgrades.

    New Kontaratoi, leather cuirass :

New Kontaratoi, chain mail & armguard :

New Menavlatoi (facing the charge of Voynuks) :

    New Menavlatoi, upgraded :

I wouldn't go beyond chain mail for these two units - Kontaratoi are base line infantry and shouldn't be too strong; menavlatoi would be unstoppable with heavier armor.

I am now working on upgrading the skutatoi.

Then, I'll fix minor things (some UI cards, etc) and stop till GC releases his units onto 3.3 - I'll make my database compatible with his EDU / modeldb + release it.

By the way, here are the Kataphractoi (lance & mace) :

Kataphract Archers, or Pronoiars if you want (bow & mace) :

Not much. While waiting for GC's unit overhaul, to which I was supposed to add my R3, I tweaked some units here and there.

Beautiful work Morfans. Question though, were they that colorful? Not that it is a bad thing. I'm just curious. The bronze scale (if that's what it is) looks phenomenal.

Really good job +rep! What is your policy on giving permission to other mods to use your work!

    Thank you.

@Wallachian : As you can infer from the first post, I based my work on Strelac's -other than an (improbable) veto from the BC team, no restriction on my side for use in other mods.

@Consulo : you mean the skoutatoi, right ? In general, my feeling is that they actually were. Nobody can tell for sure, but afaik historical sources seem to corroborate this idea. You should probably be more skeptical about Latinkoi - Normans apparently considered it as effeminate and deplorable: they could well charge through the walls of Babylon, but rigorously dressed in grey

EDIT : Fixed the 2nd Skoutatoi spoiler in post #47 - for some reason, Imageshack refused to load it the first time ...

In fact, the Latinkoi are what I was curious about. They are VERY colorful. Almost on the scale of Vanilla TW(not necessarily a bad thing ). lol. Not that is an issue, they are quite nice looking. I was just curious if there was any historical accuracy to their colorfulness. Is that your final model for them or do you plan on 'greying' them out, as they take on Babylon?

Like I said though, they all look wonderful. I'm excited to get a chance to use them.

I take it with the latest dose of unit awesomeness that Chiv 3's going to get some sort of update in the distant future? If not, is there a mod that uses these awesome units?

There is a release that may come out depending on SV having time to finish it finally. I believe this will be implemented into the game or will be a possible submod for it. There isn't a time frame for when the next release is out unfortunately.
