Does anybody know what the traits that priests have that you can't see do? I think they are unorthodoxy, violence, and purity. I see my priests get traits that add or subtract these, and I can't really see if they have any effect on the game.

No, try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.
I'm pretty sure they only matter if that priest becomes Pope. I think violence increases tolerance for a Catholic nation killing other Catholics, and also increases the chance of a Crusade being accepted. I also think purity does the opposite of both. I don't know what unorthodoxy does, though. These are all just theories, and I'm not sure about any of them.
Another: Eligibility increases the chance of that priest being selected in the College/as Bishop Preferati. I think the choice for selection is the highest total Eligibility. Piety increases Eligibility.
Again, purely theoretical.
I got a trait called "secretly a woman", which gave the preist -1 to eligibility - im guessing this means that they will have a hard time becoming Pope. That was an interesting moment in my campaign
Cry God for Harry, England and Saint George!
In my Portuguese campaign two 'women' became pope consecutively. I think cardinals with highest piety become pope candidate anyway.
But I also want to know what the other traits effect...
Unorthodoxy means the priest will easier become heretic. Violenc means the acceptance of crusades and wars.
Hope it helps.

The three cardinals with highest pity becomes candidates for becoming pope
I've had the secretly a woman one a few times before, but they never made it to Pope.

Yes, the excommunicated factions' cardinals arent as high in the list ofc
Also, is there any way to moniter them? Like how you can see Command, Loyalty, Authority ect. with generals.
