Default A Couple of Constructive Comments Concerning SPQR

Hello. Fantastic mod, easily one of the best. Great fun, good challenge, excellent stability, and very educational too. Awesome house rules as well.

I'd Just like to comment on a couple of issues I've noticed whilst playing:

    1) The AI stalls whenever it sallies forth. It happens every time. The only way to wake them up again is attack them, which quickly leads to a rout as they are unorganized and often still in column formation. I don't recall this being a problem in vanilla RTW 1.5, at least not as consistently as this. The AI reinforcements in a normal battle also seem to freeze until attacked.

    2) The garrison script is a great idea. However, unless one plays for many hours in succession without quitting or reloading the game, the garrison never has a chance to appear -- especially if one follows the house rules and fights every battle. I almost killed myself staying up late every night to ensure that each beseiged city had a garrison appear. Now I have resorted to starving each settlement out -- which means I never fight seige battles and which decreases the fun, I feel. I'm sure most people are in the same boat and do not have the time to play SPQR for enough consecutive hours so as to activate the city garrisons.

Anyway, thanks again to all whose efforts went into creating this superlative mod. You truly have the spirit of Total War running in your veins. Cheers.

You can reactivate the script each time you start a game, its in the help section for SPQR in this forum.

As for freezing it depends on the Army strength you are using to siege them. Most of the time the Player has BETTER units than the AI defender which means they know this and shouldn't have sallied out but the AI has 2 versions one for campaign and the other battelfield.

I also suggest wehn sieging just attack dont siege too long and you will not have a sally problem, also make sure to siege with 2 legions never one this helps prevent the AI glitch on this.

I'm aware of this, sir. I reactivate the script each time I load a game. My issue is that a garrison doesn't appear in a city until you have played through at least one full turn. So if you load a game and activate the script even at the end of a turn, then play through the next turn, a garrison doesn't appear until you end that next turn. Does that make sense? If the game crashes, for example, you have to start the whole process over again. At several battles a turn, plus the large amount of time I spend on the campaign map, plus being attacked by the AI a number of times at the end of each turn, it takes about five hours of straight gameplay with the script on before garrisons appear in cities. For someone who doesn't have that sort of time to play constantly, who has to quit and load often, a garrison never appears. Am I making any sense?

Thank you for your words of wisdom, sir. This makes sense. Actually, I overwrote the formations file with Darthmod Formations, and this seems to have rectified the problem as well. Not only that, it seems to have made all battles significantly more difficult. I hope you don't find this too sacrilegious lol.
