    Default [optional] Romans unit card - UPDATE 30 May

    This small file is an alternative for Romans unit card. It give different pose for some army that have similar appearance (example: hastati <-> principes).
    I create this because of my experience, I have problem to recognize Principes in a bunch of Hastaties.

    Update v1.1 :
    - move down a bit the first cohort's eagle sign
    - add the related Descr pics for the infantry :wink:
    - add some cavalry unit cards (no descr pic)

    The steps:

    1) Copy xpak.exe file to where file 'patch_1.pak' reside (...Rome - Total War\data\packs\)

    2) Still in '...packs\' folder, create a new text document, paste this inside:

    xpak -mkdir patch_1.pak
    xpak patch_1.pak

    then save as 'unpack.bat', execute it (double click).
    It will create a new subfolder 'DATA' in the current folder.
    Copy the downloaded file to there (it will overwrite the 'DATA\UI' subfolder).

    3) Still in '...packs\' folder, create a new text document, paste this inside:

    dir/b/a:-d patch_1.pak>list.txt
    dir/b/s/a:-d DATA>>list.txt
    xpak.exe -v -pf list.txt

    then save as 'pack.bat', Execute it (double click).
    This will pack a new 'patch_1.pak' (backup your old one if want).
    You can now safely delete subfolder 'DATA' that created in previous step.

    =========================================================

    Attention : The file below is not a real zip file !!, rename it to UI.uha and extract it using WinUHA.

    I'd love to help create BI unit cards, if you don't mind with the pics mismatch --> I can't afford to upload the related descr pics because I have poor bandwidth in here (third world country ) .

    If you ok with that, I will start the work and upload the unit cards part by part maybe every 3-4 days. That's make you don't have to wait the whole pack if you decide to unleash DM_8.0 before me.
    IT'S CANCELLED. My video card got burned .

    No there is not, unless you want to repack the files which is also very complicated.

    Sorry if this is obvious but where are these commands to be typed? The DOS prompt?

    Indeed these nice cards should exist in a form so that everybody would use them. But I will certainly use them for 8.0 as it seems.

    @Pdguru & Darth Vader :
    Unfortunately there's no other way. The old unit cards are packed in patch_1.pak so I have to overwrite them and repacked again.

    @blackwat : Yes, DOS prompt (Win9x) or Command prompt (WinXP). Or you can make '.bat' file from it.

    @ben_emo :
    That's not a zip file, use WinUHA instead (rename the extention first).

    @The Border Reiver :
    Could mention the problem exactly? to extract it or pack it ?

    Hi Jaggermech

    I have tried both ways described here in this thread and both don't work, it simply won't create a new data folder! The quoted version blakwat mentions the wording is slightly different, but I can't understand:

    @blackwat : Yes, DOS prompt (Win9x) or Command prompt (WinXP). Or you can make '.bat' file from it.

    How do you make a .bat file of patch1.pak if you don't have dos or command prompt?

    Mate I would really love to use this, becasue they look great, but for the life of me both directions above are not as obvious to me are they might be to others. I know this is a trifle tedious but could you please explain it again:

    1. Open packs folder
    2. Copy xpac.exe and xpac.bat (both files?) I have tried both!
    3. Create new txt file save which lines into it, and call it what?

    etc.....I appreciate you taking the time!

    An other way is to unpack patch_1.pak create a txt file with the same name put the unpacked stuff in data and then the unit cards, patch_1.pak must be renamed for backup.

    @The Border Reiver:
    The quoted version blakwat mentions the wording is slightly different,
    Read the first thread, that's the newest instruction.

    I know this is a trifle tedious but could you please explain it again:
    1. Open packs folder
    Correct, and copy just xpak.exe to that folder.

    3. Create new txt file save which lines into it, and call it what?
    I use WinXP:
    * At Windows Explorer, click Tools menu -> Folder Option -> View tab -> Uncheck this : Hide extensions for known file types.

    * At Windows Explorer in right window (file listing), Right click -> New -> text document.
    It will create New Text Document.txt in the current folder.

    * Double click that file, it will open in Notepad, copy or just rewrite my instruction lines that marked in Italic. Then Save As whatever.bat.
    Close Notepad, back to Windows Explorer, make sure when you look in file listing, it have '.bat' extension, not '.txt' or '.bat.txt'

    * When you double click that '.bat' file, it will automatically open DOS/Command window and show the process. If instead it open in notepad then you give a wrong extension.

    @Narakir:
    That's exactly what I am doing .
