Default Another Day, Another Noob, Another Question

I looked at a few of the other noobs-asking-questions threads and each time it seems they give you a run through of how they found EB, and how wonderful it is, so I thought I'd at least spare you that. I'll get down to it.

How in the world does Saba build ships? I played Saba a couple times (of course, failing miserably) without noticing, but when I realized I was unable to build ships I console-commanded the capital into a super city with every building money (and population) can buy to see what building I needed. Still I couldn't build a single damn ship! How am I supposed to conquer Axum (and thus Egypt) without ships? Please, help a noob out!

We want you to explain how wonderful EB is and how you found it first. Try to be life affirming and maybe a little emotional on your statement.

    You have 3 hours.

First, you have to send an army overland to take Gader, then you unlock the shipbuilding reform and...

Or you can try another city?

Oh, alright, fiiiiine. I just really wanted an answer, you have no idea how frustrated I got, being a noob lost in an extremely complex game!

I've been playing RTW casually since about when it came out, and I was twee and mindless then anyways, so I wasn't very good, or patient. EB would've slaughtered me without thought. But vanilla, on Medium/Medium (I think after a year I worked up to Hard/Hard for some of the easier factions, and all my friends were very impressed) was good for me. And after a good while of playing RTW on and off, Medieval II Total War came out and filled my strategy gaming needs, and I moved on, and so it goes.

Until, as is obvious, I returned! I've been revisiting all my old favourite games (Banjo Tooie, Dynasty Warriors 3, Rome Total War, Medieval 2 Total War, Oblivion, Morrowind), and I've been playing the Total Wars quite a bit lately. But vanilla got old quick, since I've tread that path already. Sooo, I moved onto mods! RTR didn't quite tickle my fancy (too similar to vanilla, first of all, and it just didn't hook me at all) and then Roma Surrectum didn't either (can't stand the ridiculously huge stacks EVERYWHERE, and ALL THE TIME), but EB hit my flirtation with underdogs and flirtation with history spots just right.

So, here I am, playing EB in the middle of the night and playing the underdog to boot (Saba), and getting frustrated at my STUPID INABILITY TO BUILD BOATS!

@fireblade: I was about to do that, until I saw where Gader was... You're cruel, good sir! I did try all the other cities in my home territory, and it didn't work. Is there such a thing as Saba ship reforms? Or should I risk war with the Ptolies and walk an army over to Axum?

    Tamane.

You'll have to build the military port first, though. It requires a government - hope you've installed one of those (should be Type I since it's a homeland territory).

All I can say in my defence is... I'm an idiot.

    Thank you.

No, there are no ship building reforms

You can find information on the reforms here (for factions that have them, that is)

    Hey JiimBV,

Right now I am playing a Saba campaign and I have a thread showing my progress. I had the same questions when I started it. here is the link:
    http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showth...AB-YN-CAMPAIGN

Check it out and hopefully you get some answers there too.

You guys are too nice. I will definitely look over your Saba campaign, but only after I've tried them myself one more time. You're presumably better than me, I don't want all your good ideas rubbing off on me, I'll feel like I'm cheating.

I took Axum, by the way! Next is Meroe, and maybe inching my way eastward in Arabia... I'm frightened of sharing a border with Arche Seleukeia, though. Right now I'm gunna concentrate on hitting Egypt as hard as I can.

There's an up-to-date map for EB1.2 with all provinces that allow navy ports here - scroll down to section 7.
