    Default high elves begining

i dont understand what i am to do with the castle closer to the chaos
its like the very possesion of that castle and army are more of a detriment than an advantage
which settlement am i supposed to attack with them?
another question: are the high elves targeted by the chaos storm?

In most guides on this forum they say to abandon the fortress and try and take Marienburg. I find it to be an alright outpost for attacking some of the Norse settlements, but play with an extended map so there are quite a lot of them to take. Going from what happened to me on 1.44 there is at least one Khorne attack scripted on it (i think two armies at the same time) and they will continually harass that settlement until chaos storm. Chaos Storm even focuses on the settlements in the Empire, but if you own some then you will be involved with it as well. Otherwise you are generally unaffected by the chaos and orc armies that spawn. I think the only factions you will have to content with are the dark elves, who hit your Capital, and some chaos armies early on.

so this is my first serious effort with the high elves
    played about 70 turns
left the norsca castle right at the start and tried to establish myself in the sea of claws
actually never had to fight a hard battle (which is just as well since the elves have no artillery)
    sadly the empire has crumbled
it all began when wissenland lost in about 20 turns
3 others have turned to chaos (??)
the orcs pretty much took over the south of the empire and counting the turncoats there is almost nothing left really
this is very disheartning and depressing
    AS IT ING SHOULD BE!!
despair should be the feeling for 99% of the campaign as far as i am concerned
though i do hope there is some way for the good guys to win and not just me
not much of a victory if the empire will be extinct

edit: just a couple of turns after this post averland came back to the light )
    im so happy
also there was a video about khrome dying(?) and the forces of chaos attacking the empire from the east
didnt understood the nature of the event
togglefowwed but couldnt see a chaos army in the east at all

Very nice campaign ash One thing in CoW when playing with "good guys" is to help AI-allies. Usually you can do fine just defending yourself and expanding, but if you ignore helping others, things might go really bad. Tought sometimes this adds some very interesting twists to the game, as in your campaign.

Propably scripted invasions to present Storm of Chaos, game usually (atleast in 1.5) warns ahead of spawning armies that has predefined target.

yes i think i understood the nature of the event now
i like the notion of "warning" you before an invasion
as if any measures could be taken against this

any chance they will just get lost in the woods or smtng?

Nope- first few attacks there is not much you can do- just make them suffer as much losses as possible. Fast moving all cavalry armies help and make sure you have a night fighter and don't mind withdrawing and fleeing from some battles. In a few turns those masses will be ground down a bit and not look so bad but you have 60+ turns to prepare so...

was busy for a while and only picked up the game now
you can see from the minimap that things have not been improved much
chaos has offered its undivided attention to the northen empire duchies and pretty much destroyed them
i have made some gains against the chaos dwarves in the north
but mostly through weak AI behaviour
i had less than a full stack but everytime, they moved their forces away from their western most frontier castle
that way i always had an almost empty castly to take using spies and my one army

another interesting point is the subject of the picture
the dark elves have only this one settlement which for some reason they havent improved at all it seems
and somehow they can finance an army worthy of sauron
they also have a couple more stack in ships in the sea of thornes
there is some weak AI behavior too
these stacks havent left the ships for about 50 turns
it seems like if there is no dark elven port in that sea then they wont get out of their ships
not really doing anything not even attacking my weak fleet
    not blockading ports, nothing

oh and another behavior related issue
you can see from the minimaps that there are two rebel settlements to my right
they belonged to some chaos faction and gone rogue when the undivided event happened
as garrison they got about 4 or 5 units of stone trolls
the kislev AI apparently doesnt understand how strong they are and constantly attacks the left settlement with about a quarter of a stack
    dies everytime
he lost about 3 stacks just from what i seen that way
he can of course attack with two full stacks and autoresolve would grant him a victory with little losses, but he just doesnt realise that
