Default building available after a certain year?

    hello,
reading wikipedia, I discovered that the partial plate armor was available from XIII century, full plate XIV and gothic XV.

So, I would like the smith building cuild be built only from that period. How to do that?

I thought I could make some new historic events, and make their construction dependent upon them (like the gunpowder discovered). But for some reasons, the historic_events.txt file is not converted to the string file when the game starts.
It is placed in the data/text file.
So, when the date of the new event added in the descr_events.txt is reached, the game crashes.
Am I supposed to modify something more than these 2 files?

The text between the {} in historic_events should always be in capitals.

thanks, tried that, but it still doesn't read/convert the txt to bin.
I tried also to modify one of the body message of one of the other historical events, but in game it displays the default body message.

Edit: maybe it is a more general problem of mine. No file is converted to bin in that folder :/
I tried also export_buildings.txt and export_units.txt and they are not converted :/

Did you try to convert them yourself and then put them in that folder...

They're auto generated, unless you're using a pirated version i don't see the problem for not generating it.
Make sure these text files are saved in UNICODE format with ¬ sign at the beginning of each text file, otherwise bin files won't generate.

    it has ¬

I used this tool to convert the string file to txt
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1006

and I also resaved the txt file as unicode just to be sure it was unicode. But it still isn't converted.

I have tried to reinstall the game and patch 1.02. Exported again using the unpacker, the historic_events.txt.strings.bin and converted again. No luck.

I have tried to use the original historic_events.txt.strings.bin in the text folder, and you know what? when it reaches the first event, the game crashes.

    so:
    - the historic_events.txt file, is not read nor converted.
    - the original historic_events.txt.strings.bin, makes the game crash.

Well if that's not working for you this Strings.Bin_Editor will work. The 2nd link i think. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=120313

    You do have
    Code:
    [io]
    file_first = true
    in your .cfg file?

And you do have a correctly named and formated event pic in the corresponding folder?

I tried it, but when I save the file, an error message pops up

I am starting the game from a .bat file, that contains the following
    Code:

    medieval2.exe --io.file_first
and I could use the other modified files I have (export descr building and units), but
    I tried to add the
    [io]
    file_first = true
in the cfg file, and add a pic in the data/ui/southern_european/eventspic... but no change.

However, I discovered I can make a mod folder. I did it, created a new bat file, and I managed to add a new event
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Unfortunately, I don't seem able to add another pic to it. The event is named ARMORHALFPLATE, and I copied one of the original event pic, and named it as the event and placed in the mymod/data/ui/southern_european/eventspic, but in game I see this placeholder.
Moreover, using the mymod folder, while the game is loading I don't see the usually pics, but a black screen instead.

This is the pic I wanted. If the txt file is converted to string when placed in the mymod text folder, I thought: can it work if copied to the default text folder?
    apparently the answer is yes.
I think it has no matter if the letters are not capitalized, according to my tests.
