Default hot cpu despite two fans

computer has bveen very noisy lately, and i cleaned it out with a highpressure can (specially bought for it, together with a new fan) yesterday, but when i place my hand on the tower today i can still feel its pretty hot especially after gaming. But the problem is it doesnt really cool down when im done with that. i downloaded speedfan, and the temperaturs where 50-55+ after gaming. ive opened the tower to let it cool off. (which i know you shouldnt do too often cause you're disrupting the air flow and give dust an easy acces)

how can i help this? cause its winter now, i can imagine what summer will do...

EDIT: ow yes, my tower is not on the ground (its on a desk), and it has enough space next to it (so i dont disrupt the air flow)

Download Speedfan, run it and post the results here. Maybe your fans aren't at full speed?

they are at full speed, thats what all the noise is.

thats way too hot for a Phenom 2.

Take the machine apart and clean the heatsink and fans. If that doesnt work you may have to remove the heatsink and reapply the thermal paste.

If you aren't sure how to do that take it to a local computer shop and pay them 5 or 10 euros to do it.

seems to me that thermal paste isnt properly applied, that or the heatsink isnt seated properly thus not making proper full contact.

ill take it to my local pc-guy, although it might take some time before i can do that. Any idea how it could have happened? i dont know exactly when it started, but i got that new graphical card and cooler a few months now. how high may the temperature go when im doing just normal pc (so no games)? Cause the fans are really loud, and im gonna use speedfan to let them go slower

Is 55 celsius a bad temp when playing games? It is a lot below the max temp core limits, isnt it? I bet that when you play games the cpu runs at an average 40-60% load at least. I think that 55 celsius is pretty acceptable.

on AMD Phenom II cpus or Athlon II cpus 62c is the max temp threshold amd recommends staying below that, the cpu will keep working past that but its not good for the chip. Stay under 62c and things usually wont ever be a problem

Got it. Is it the same for the newest amd cpus? Intel seems to be more tolerant to heat, right?

they also tend to run a lot hotter for some reason. they consider 70C a good temperature 70 C will fry a phenom 2

    its the difference in process

AMD uses SOI (silicon on insulator)
Intel uses HKMG (high-κ dielectric)HKMG for Intel means lower voltages and higher temps
SOI for AMD means higher volts but lower temps

but its essentially 2 completely different manufacturing process each has strengths and weaknesses.

I t will be a week before i can go to my local pc guy, so whenever i game i now open the tower, which helps cooling a lot. Which makes me wonder: could it be that its not a heatsink or thermal paste problem, but rather a ventilation problem? (temperature rising because of the hot air not escaping enough). although there is nothing blocking the tower, and its in a big room (so lot of room for the hot air to go away), and its absolutly not hot (its the coldest room in the house apart from the cellar probably)

I think you have got to try reapplying the paste and reseating the cooler...have you tried that yet?

Better cable management is another possibility to increase air flow in your case.

If you're not sure how , there's lot's of good demo videos, possibly using the same equipment that you have.

Sorry to revive this thread, but the hot weather has made it back actual. I wasnt able to bring my pc back in, cause i needed it for university stuff. But now again its making a huge noise even when im not gaming, unless i open the tower. its practicly giving me a headache, and its very unpleasant when you have to type things.

i might go for liquid cooling, or just a new tower (cause i never buy a new pc, i just stick new hardware in it), so better fans can be installed.

@huberto: i rather dont touch things of which im not completly sure :p i just let the guy do it. i cn always shift the bill to my mum for tax stuff

Just how loud is the noise you are hearing? Do you know the sound of a burnt-out bearing? Maybe the fan you bought is faulty? Just food for thought. Good luck!

well, its difficult to put it in decibels, but its loud enough. with just surfing the internet, my core is going for 45-52 degrees celsius (tower closed). I will measure later today how much it is for an hour gaming with tower closed (i have to go to the dentist first...)

an hour of napoleon TW (midhigh settings), with the tower closed led up to about 75 degrees celsius, for both core and GPU

75C seems reasonable for your graphics card but too hot for your CPU. Thus your heat problem may be best addressed through better CPU cooling rather than case fans, etc. Reapply thermal paste and reseat CPU cooler.
