Default To cheat or not to cheat? Britannia

I really enjoy the cheats, but it kind of drains the game if I'm winning all the time. So every once in awhile I have to go old school - no cheats. I managed to win the game under all of the roman factions so far, and Carthage. I got crushed as Spain and Parthia. Now I'm trying Britannia. And what a challenge with no cheats. The head hurlers are freaking cool, I laugh every time I see them in action. But Britannia's units are so basic, it's hard to find that right mix of good troops. The chariots are pretty awesome, but they route easily against tougher opponents.

Any suggestions for a good makeup of Britannia units?

And what about Onagers? Britannia doesn't have Onagers . If I decided to cheat and create_unit Onagers, does anybody have the wordage for Onagers - merc onagers, perhaps (if such exists)?

Any ideas for making money with Britannia? I've noticed it's tougher because of the sea trade aspect.

Any and all ideas for my journey of having Britannia conquer the world would be appreciated .

Most of their strength is in their chariots. I would say a few infantry units, at least 3-5 chariots and the rest missile. Infantry holds the line, missile softens the infantry or cavalry and chariots route them. I've never actually played as Britannia, but that's how I would do it.

Also, crush spain and the Gauls before you even touch Germania. Gaul and Spain towns are much closer together which would help with money problems and recruiting.

Btw, once you have the Gauls finished block Julii's access by using the choke points like the bridges and mountain passes. It'll probably make it easier to round up Spain if you don't have Romans all over your nation.

Great advice, especially about conquering the Gauls and Spain... makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

I played for a couple of hours today and I just can't keep the people happy... ungrateful peasants. This is a real challenge.

Also if you spam chariot armies I hear auto resolve is your best friend because it overestimates the ability of the chariots.

dont cheat, you will be isolated for a while so just build up. It's more fun that way

How I play when playing the Brits:
    2 or 3 Family Members
4-8 infantry, depends on if I'm facing Romans or other heavily armored foes
Rest are chariots of either light (chariot archers) or heavy (battlerams) assortments. A mass chariot rush, even of light ones, does a LOT of damage, and when in a huge mass like that, routers don't have a chance.

I was once an Angel of Total War Heaven, but gave up my wings for a life on the sea of battle.

What you must do whilst playing as Britain is crush rome early, the Brits have no really powerful units other than chariots, which are destroyed by heavy infantry.

Why cheat when you can be resourceful. There are plenty of quality Mercs around the map and if you are clever those units will make up the bulk of your army late game.

Cretan archers are in good supply (best archer unit imo) I always like to train them up from early game and the experienced and upgraded one's do massive missile damage, 22 from memory.

Elephants from Egypt and Carthage are always handy. Also Sarmation cavalry aren't too bad either.

This should not only save you from using cheats, but it makes the game more fun. Well at least it does for me.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I am getting slightly my tail kicked, but I'm haning in there. Recruiting mercs has helped, except they freaking charge without being ordered to do so. But oh well, they are taking out some decent units.

I like the idea about taking out Rome early on. Too bad I didn't listen to that advice early on. They have some urban cohorts now, I sacrifice several units on getting them to retreat. Chariots have proven to been to be my biggest friend, them and head throwers.

Yeah, taking the Roman factions first didn't even enter my mind. I do it instinctively every game i play, not because they pose any threat, but because they kill off all the small factions before you get to share your culture with them.

Plus there's so many of them, 3 factions worth, yet they are all the same units. Gets a little boring fighting them when they populate the entire map.

It's no fun to kill the strong factions before they grow up.
