I thought there would already be a thread about this, but I guess not...

anyhoo, I just saw the flick and wow, the world is full of some pretty brutal people.

    some comments/questions about the movie:

I'm glad Spielberg managed to keep distance from a pro-Israel stance. It seemed pretty unbiased to me. Do you agree?

Were the Israelis right in using such brutal tactics to go after those men?

I just rented it last weekend as well, as was pleased with the movie. In my mind Israel had to react against the terrorists who committed the massacre. For in the Middle East, the weak are crushed, thus Israel had to show that it wouldn't go quietly if attacked.

I do think Spielberg does get a little preachy though with the conversation between the PLO and the Mossad member, with the PLO member preaching about the future Palestinian state, and how home means everything. But yea, great flick for anyone interested in the Middle East and its politics.

May I suggest looking up Hama rules, it helps to explain why the Iraq is the way Iraq is now post invasion and in general the Middle East.

Murder begets murder. Were they right? How can you be right when everybody is wrong. But I never lost any sleep over it, and I don't think anyone should.

One thing that puzzled me was that the group were Jewish. But Jews follow the 10 commandments, i.e. thou shalt not kill. Seemed to do a lot a killing without thinking any wrong of it.

I was super excited to see this, I had hopes of it being up there with Schindler's List but I felt that it fell very short of that mark. Dont get me wrong, great film, I loved it. But it felt like it had pacing problems, I cant put my finger on it.

I think they have someway around it. I heard that it says something about God saying the Jews being justifid to fight against their enemies in an Army,

Yes, considering it's just religious people who kill. Your statement should be revised to say

Uh-hu, that would somehow miss the point of answering someone who considers it odd that jews, who supposedly follow the ten commandments, would kill people, don't you think?

I found the final scene with the interwining cuts from his homecoming (and erm.. well sex with ihs wife) and the Munich massacre a bit weird. It seemed to me like a cheap shot to cause a dramatic effect.

Otherwise I found the movie surprisingly well and honestly, the problem with the killing as displayed through the executors was not the retaliation per se but that simply anyone working for the Palestinansian goal was targeted (as the secret service officer later said they targeted ten people for every Israeli killed and obviously not just the crazed terrorist kind but anyone else prominent on the other side as well)
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

Actualy, no, It would simply state that it is human nature to kill your enemies, and that the Jews have been known since their exodus from Egypt to be forced to kill to survive.
