    my thoughts??? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I could see him drawing out that point into a 30 minute speech.

I like watching SotU addresses just so I can see Boehner look like he's watching his boss make out with his mom.

Lol, I enjoy that as well. I think it was last year or two years ago where Obama got really jazzed up during the speech. Real hitler stuff, banging the podium and gettin' mad, really powerful. And you could see it in Boehner's eyes, the absolute detestation of Obama's speaking skills.

It was kind of a boring speech compared with others he's given.

The republican response sure pissed me off though. Almost the entire State of the Union address followed a theme of working together. And made a point of highlighting that we're still the greatest nation in the world and things are getting better, which they are. Then the republicans come in and in about 3 minutes they've accused him of trying to divide us and said that in reality the state of the union is "grave".

Really??? "Grave"??? Our existence as a nation is about to come to its very end??

While at the same time promoting very liberal ideas hurtful to our country.

Believe it or not, even great countries like the US can't just sit back and expect to remain on top. Things like federal regulations, redistribution of wealth, and the overall power the government is gaining over the private sector are what is ruining our great nation.
What liberals like Obama don't understand is that you can't make everyone equal. We don't live in a utopia. All you can do is protect everyone's rights and what they make of themselves is up to them. The idea that everyone should go to college and get a high paying job on the budget of the taxpayer is ridiculous.

Also, Obama's views on energy are ridiculous. He talked about subsidizing forms of clean energy: forms of energy that aren't even profitable (as solyndra showed) yet the Democrats have been trying to make more appealing by getting the price of oil and coal up for the last decade.

Yes, the private sector did a marvelous job helping the nation. What with all those junk predatory mortgages they camouflaged into CDO's, sold to investors as AAA investments, while simultaneously betting/insuring against them and completely over leveraging themselves at obscene levels. In such quantities mind you to nearly bring down one of the largest insurances firms on the planet, nearly bringing down multiple investment banks, losing 50 million people's jobs globally, millions of Americans to lose their homes, hundreds of thousands to lose their life savings and hurdling the world into a recession.

Government regulation would only hinder that. How sad would that be.

And you're right about energy too. Think about it!! Think about how preposterous is it for america to try and get ahead of the curve in what will inevitably be the largest industry in the world one day.

This is why you're a civitate. Someone else will have to rep you for me

Seriously, though, I feel like he should have spent more time talking about his foreign policy accomplishments. He probably would have if he were at all worried about the election, which he shouldn't be. I got the feeling this was a "just don't **** up speech".

The funny thing is elections are rarely won on foreign policy though. Obama is thus far an effective (not superb, I think he lacks imagination in many areas) president in terms of national security and diplomacy. But outside of 10% of Americans who actually are informed about foreign policy (like the population in every country pretty much), most Americans care about the economy much more. Obama has to talk about economy and spin it in a positive way no matter what.

It was a safe speech meant to appeal to independents rather than rile up the base. No talk of healthcare, basically no social issues etc.

    Cut taxes
    Cut red tape
Drill for oil and Natural Gas
    Invest in education & infrastructure
    Congress sucks balls...
By the way I killed Bin Laden

The only two controversial things he brought were the Dream Act and the 30% minimum tax on millionaires, which really was served up perfectly by Romney releasing his tax returns yesterday (wtf Romney? Should have waited until after the SotU), but aren't going anywhere until after the election.

The speech literally started of with, "I am here in Indianapolis, home of Super Bowl 46". I was a little shocked by that. One of Obama's strongest political attributes his he comes off as serious and responsible compared to the other side (something he stole from the conservative playbook). Opening with a sports plug plays into that.

I cant think of anything more serious then Tom Brady getting his 4th superbowl ring. Your point is invalid

If this was indeed the strategy then it was a very good one, since recently more Americans are identifying themselves as Independents than any other political affiliation.

Yeah but Obama is quite honestly a big sports guy, always has been.

The only way someone like that can survive to run for a presidential election is by somehow magically skipping the primaries which, of course, is impossible.

so depressing, so qualified (IMO anyways) He actually did rather well in my home state (NH). I mean if he could get by the primaries I really think he would have a very good shot at winning. I think he would be able to win independents and many who are left leaning (like myself). The rest of the Republican base would vote for him simply because hes "not Obama".

Instead retards like Gingrich are still around, pretty much forcing me to vote Obama again

Mandatory school up to 18 should be fairly controversial.

The fact that its going to be controversial should be controversial.

He urged states to make it mandatory. You can call for the strangling of cute kittens without controversy as long you say it should be done through the states.
