Default Arsene Lupin or Sherlock Holmes?

Over the summer I read a series of stories about Arsene Lupin the gentleman burglar and in some of the stories Holmes is featured and defeated by Lupin. In my opinion Lupin is Holmes' greatest archenemy.
So who do you like more Holmes or Lupin?

Well considering Sir Arthur Conan Doyle made him change the name to "Herlock" Scholmes" because he didn't agree to the use of his character's name in the storeys, I don't really think you could call him his archenemy, as he was never recognised as such by the author.

It's a bit like me writing a story about a character I created, made him a Mary Sue, and used him to kick James Bond's ass.

I think Doyle didn't like it because Lupin always defeated Holmes. Lupin is also French and thus is a very reasonable archenemy. He is like the opposite of Holmes. Lupin is very sociable, a burglar, French. Lupin is also very similar. He studied martial arts, just as smart and ingenious, and a bunch of other stuff.

I should write a story about me kicking Hercules' ass because that will make it real.

I personally like Moriarty, he's a good canon archnemesis.

Moriarty wasn't an archnemesis. He was a 'greatest enemy'. There's a difference. Moriarity had very few references outside of the one or two major stories he was in. The idea of an archnemesis is like GIJoe vs Cobra. They're constantly running into each other regardless of who wins.

So basically like Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty then? As they constantly run into each other.

This only has truth if you really believe that the only two Sherlock Holmes stories ever published are The Final Problem and The Valley of Fear. Read my entire post next time before you reply.

I enjoy reading the works centered around both characters, although right now, I think I like Arsene Lupin's stories a little more. I guess it helps that I've already been a fan of his grandson.

Also, for those interested, another character similar to Arsene Lupin (more so than Holmes I think) I thought, was Simon Templar (The Saint). Check out Charteris' novels or the Roger Moore TV series and you'll know what I mean.
