Hi there, sorry for the lack of updates but real life issues made me really busy (study, work, etc.)

So, who likes my mod's idea doesn't worry, this is not dead but it's only in very, very, very slow progress, even if up to now I can say it's still.
In next months I'll update creating last generic communal soldiers, and then I'll turn my attention to strat map: characters models, permanent stone forts to represent minor cities, city models etc.

I want to release this mod, don't know when but I'll release it

Take your time. It may be cliche but EB has a large team and look how long they have been at it. If it takes a year or more I'll be there to dl and play this when your done.

Finally a small unit update in the OP: pikemen, the heavy infantry of Communes.

Even if it's not complete, I think I'll can show you the most common formation and behaviour of Communal armies on battlefield by using in-game screens, it could be interesting. I'll prepare them and then I'll show you

    Thanks for support

I've also idea to release, even if I don't know when, a sort of beta with some historical battles with my units and CSUR ones both. If I have to plan, I'd insert
    -Montaperti 1260
    -Benevento 1266
    -Campaldino 1289
As part of CeA and not only of the communal roster pack, I wanna learn how to add Marka horses in my mod, so I could bring a better quality to my project.

    Do you like the idea?

The pikemen look great. Marka horses would do your units more justice than vanilla ones.

Excellent work on the pikemen! Would their Italian name be Piccheri? Also, would it be possible for you to provide us some background info on the pikemen in Italy and their use. I am asking because I was under the impression that the Swiss pioneered the reintroduction of the pike phalanx in European warfare in the XIV - XV centuries and that before that pikemen hadn't been used in Europe since antiquity (although I did read something about the Flemish pikemen aswell). Or did the pikemen exist in Italy but they just weren't that popular and later the success of the Swiss in using the pikemen led to the age of the pike and musket?

Second question is regarding the communal pack. Are the units previewed the generic units? And will you make these units to match the colours of each of the communes (Genoa, Venice, Milan, Pisa and Florence)?

Well, maybe "pikemen" ("picchieri" in modern italian, in medieval vernacular italian also "piquieri" should be good) is not the proper name; a more correct name probably is the one of the weapons they use, the so called "lanzelonghe" (singular "lanzalonga" in vernacular italian; "lanza"=spear, "longa"=long), not properly a pike but a 3-4 meters long spear which is the ancestor of the renaissance pike.
In medieval Europe, and expecially in medieval Italy, probably there was a huge use of ancient (most of Roman Era) military manuals and recalls about the past glory of roman armies: just for example, in Communal armies there was the use of palvise shields, which were very similar to roman scuta in shape, and is also known about some palvese spearmen which threw their spears, as if they were pila.
The growing in using pikes could be related to the fact that many roman manuals written in greek recalled the ancient glory of the macedonian phalanx, and they could be used as examples.

About the second question: yes of course mate these are generic units, which could be used properly by rebel faction; I'll add tunics and heraldry for some units but only for specific factions (as the ones you mentioned).

I see I see, thanks for the explanation. Makes a lot more sense, the long spear sounds like a transition phase before the true pike of the Renaissance. Too bad your mod doesn't go all the way up to the XVth century with the age of the condotiere Very interesting about the palvesari with the throwing javelins, never knew of that. Another annoying question for you: is 'pavesari' or 'palvesari'? Because up until your mod I've seen it mostly as 'pavesari' and in English the word is 'pavise'.

This is a not totally clear subject, in the sense that actually in italian both the terms are valid. The real question is actually about other shields mentioned in sources which are like pavise ones 99% but maybe not exactly (such as targa and tavolaccio, both terms that refer to large and flat shields).

you're welcome Wallachian, I love talking 'bout these subjects.

25th of april is Liberation Day in Italy, to remember when the Resistance movement in Italy defeated fascism and Nazism at the end of WWII.

    But now, is time for
Hoenstaufen knights from CSUR riding marka horses!
