New Machine and new to this PC era

I recently built the system in my signature and am new to this era's hardware. I was using a system from 2004 until the New Year.

Are you familiar with any of the companion ASUS motherboard software?
Any tips for AMD/ATI cards? Until recently, I've only used nVidia cards.

I've been looking through the ASUS software and AMD Vision Engine, and have read some Online articles about some of the programs, but I'm still not sure what some properties do or represent.

I currently play Diablo 1 & 2, RTW, M2TW Kingdoms (Retrofit Mod), DOOM 3 (Denton's Enhanced DOOM 3 Mod), F.E.A.R., and StarCraft Brood War & II. Is it better to 'use application settings' and/or use default settings or use the slider bars in the Vision Engine Control Center and for which games?
