Thread: A Tasty Green Brew (ORC CoW 1.44 AAR)

Default A Tasty Green Brew (ORC CoW 1.44 AAR)

Grimgor Ironhide surveyed the deserts he ruled and was seized with a fit of boredom. After crossing the mountains years ago with a few dozens of the toughest Black Orcs Grimgor had become boss of all the Orcs on the western side of the mountains. Only some Goblin and Skaven clans resisted his rule.

Clashes with Dwarves had become steadily more common in the most recent 2 years and Grimgor decided to find out if the Dwarves were any more worthy foes than any he had faced so far.

Using the Orcs on VH-VH with Really Bad AI and no other submods(voices only but that does not change anything related to the campaign). CoW 1.44

I've had this campaign and AAR started for about 6 months but finally Corvin's Let's Play http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=515900 inspired me to post it all. Take a look as there are is some entertaining stuff and Let's Play could really be made into a different type of AAR.

Trying to play this a bit as Grimgor would have according to lore. In Warhammer Grimgor is one of the strongest individual characters ever... translated into CoW he is a bit weak. Traditionally he should lead every battle from the front but that would quickly see him killed in CoW and the end of this AAR.

According to Warhammer lore Grimgor is capable of great cunning but usually prefers tests of brute strength. To roleplay a bit I am making Grimgor rely more on his cunning in most battles and giving him a fear of anything taller than himself and an addiction to mushroom brew. Various battles will be told from different perspectives. Sometimes a historical narrator, sometimes Grimgor or a lesser Boss, sometimes Dwarven or even human.

In the lore Grimgor attacks Dwarves and then Kislev until finally waiting on the plains and fighting the advancing Storm of Chaos in a huge battle which is Grimgor's first ever defeat. Grimgor subsequently temporarily allies with the Chaos Storm but in the first large battle betrays his allies.

It is not really feasible with CoW to occupy the plains of north Kislev by the time the Chaos Storm appears but Grimgor will not use Waaaghs before the Storm of Chaos and when it arrives will attempt to challenge Chaos armies more than armies of the Empire. Otherwise the goals are simply expanding to points on the map where it allows Grimgor a chance to fight every single faction in CoW. So I will try to get battles against Dark Elves, High Elves, all the Empire Factions, Undead, etc... but it might not be possible according to how the campaign plays out.

This AAR will be mostly done in breaks from modding so at first will come quickly as I had already played about 40 turns before starting to mod but once the AAR catches up to me (turn 52) it will go much slower.

In 2523 Grimgor Ironhide has subdued all the Orc tribes of the barren lands beyond the Dwarven holds bordering the World Edge Mountains. Only some Night Goblin clans, Skaven, and the great Dragons and Ogres continue to resist his rule. Grimgor has proven himself against the strongest foes that the Goblins and Skaven have sent against him while so far finding few Ogres out in the barren lands were there is little food for the great maws of hunger that is an Ogre. Dragons in this era are mostly slumbering and its been over a century since any Dragon nests have been discovered as far as known history records it. The great undead lord Nagash might know differently but such information is kept in his dark grasp.

Grimgor has heard of the fierce Dwarven holds which have kept the Orcs of the barrenlands from becoming a serious menace to the Empire or Kislev. Grimgor now intends to match his strength against the best the Dwarven clans neaby have to offer...

    Orc armies gather...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Ruglud Bonechewer has heard of this new Orc Boss and decides to offer his services... for a price. The gold and other treasures of the Dwarven holds have fired is avarice. If Grimgor launches a Waaagh, Ruglud is sure he will gain vast treasures.

Ruglud is one of the few Orcs to have offered his services as a mercenary in the Empire and other lands. He is intelligent for an Orc and has organized his Boyz into crossbow companies. Very rare for Orcs as crossbows take more work to operate and maintain. Consequently most of his Boyz are smarter than the average Orc and also slightly larger having survived longer. Not as fierce in melee combat as Black Orcs but nearly equal to most Orc clan Big Uns.

Grimgor has sent the only Orc to give him any challenge in his domination of the Orc clans north- Grimgor having proven himself bigger and badder than Slookilla has some time before he needs to worry about a challenge. Slookilla is famous amongst Orcs for his patience. Less than that of a 12 year old human child throwing a tantrum but for an Orc such patience can be remarkable.

Ungrim the Slayer King of the Dwarves marches out to meet Slookilla in personal combat. Often a major battle can be averted if a Dwarven Champion manages to kill the Orc Boss leading the horde. Usually the Orc Bosses oblige seeing it as a chance to prove their battle prowess and killing a Dwarven Champion in personal combat spreads the Bosses name around and often draws more Orcs forming a larger horde.

The battle is fierce but Slookilla with is backup of Wolf Riders manages to kill both Ungrim and Garagrim his cousin, both famous slayers.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

In the south Badruk, Boss of the Savage Orc clan leads his horde into battle.

The Dwarves have centuries of experience fighting Orcs but Badruk is driven by his fear of Grimgor more than fearing anything the Dwarves can threaten him with.

After the battle Badruk heads north to meet with Grimgor who has gathered a large horde himself to contest with the Dwarven armies which scouts have reported venturing deep into the barrenlands. Mount Silverspear was lost to the Dwarves years ago while Orcs and Goblin inhabit the upper reaches, Skaven control the depths. The Dwarves regularly attempt to recapture their former hold but so far have been disappointed every time.

Meanwhile Slookilla advances against Karak Kadrin whose walls and deep halls have repulsed countless Orc hordes in the past. However this time the simple glory of battle is not the only motivation driving the Orcish hordes... Grimgor has commanded that Karak Kadrin fall.

Default Re: A Tasty Green Brew (ORC CoW 1.44 AAR)

Slookilla is not surprised to find the Dwarves of the Slayer hold Karak Kadrin venturing out of their halls to do battle. The clans here are the center of the Dwarven Slayer cult where any Dwarf who has been shamed by failing their duty, publicly humiliated by being turned down for marriage or guild membership might take up a Slayer oath to go and fight until dead but to never give up... so the longest lived Slayers are typically the best fighters and also the most shamed Dwarves who have long attempted to fulfill their oath but have yet to be slain.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Karak Kadrin has repulsed so many previous attacks due to its location.

The Orcs advance up the slope and Slookilla decides to race some of his boyz around the entire Karak Kadrin to burn off his impatience of the slow pace of the Orc who have to climb the slope on their own feet. Some Slayers pursue Slookilla adding some spice to the race...

A group of Savage Orcs race to the top faster than any other Orcs and soon Dwarves are marching to them.

Half of the Dwarven army partially descends the slope to try and prevent any more Orcs gaining the plateau. Black Orcs race to gain a height advantage to unleash one of their ferocious charges.

Slayers move to engage the Orcs... Slayers once committed to battle never retreat and never surrender.

Slookilla continues to race his boyz around Karak Kadrin while more Slayers pursue.

Despite the ferocity of the Slayers preventing the leading groups of Orcs to gain the plateau the majority of the horde simply gains the plateau by moving around the battle. Dwarven warriors fighting the Savage Orcs decide it is time to fleet back into the halls of Karak Kadrin and close the gaits lest the Orcs somehow gain access inside...

As events would have it the Savave Orcs through simple blood lust follow the Dwarves so closely that the unthinkable happens... Orcs inside Kadrak Kadrin for the first time ever.

When the Dwarves outside realize that Orcs have breached the halls all move back to defend their clan homes. However it is too late... the Orc horde has gained the plateau and races the Dwarves back to the very entrance to the halls fighting the entire way. Slookilla loses the race around Kadrak Kadrin to one of his boyz but quickly forgets as he engages Dwarven Slayers.

The Dwarves remaining in Kadrak Kadrin have few warriors... those able to fight stall the Orc horde as the clans flee Kadrak Kadrin through hidden escape tunnels. For the Dwarves the fall of Kadrak Kadrin is nearly impossible to believe.

For the Orcs there is much feasting on dead stumpies and rampaging through the treasures of Kadrak Kadrin the fleeing Dwarves were forced to leave behind. The battle was hard fought and some Orc champions fell but Kadrak Kadrin is now in Orc hands.

    Outside Grimgor's camp

    "Boss!"
Growling Grimgor turns from his game of tossing squealing goblins toward a big iron kettle and regards the Savage Orc scout. "Whaddya want you litlz runt?" The Savage Orc is impressed with Grimgor's sheer size and slightly hungry from the smell of cooked goblin but manages to give his report, "Night Goblins have left their fortress and descended into the valley!" Grimgor roars with delight! "Now all me boyz gonna feast on goblin flesh, the stumpies can wait, lets git em, Waaagh!"

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Grimgor howls commands at his horde and pursues the fleeing Night Goblins right up to the walls of Mount Gunbad.

As the last of the squealing Night Goblins flee into the old Dwarven Fortress on Mount Gunbad Grimgor howls in frustration. Stomping over to his enginearz Grimgor orders siege work to commence. There are plenty of goblins available for the work now as the leaders of the surrounding Goblin clans are all hiding in Mount Gunbad.

A month of restlessness follows and the Orc horde loses several boyz to Grimgor's wrath as his enginearz take their lazy time about it.

Grimgor is pleased to have shown the Night Goblins who Da Boss is but is furious to find that Mount Silverspear has fallen to the stumpies while he was busy with the Night Goblins. Grimgor quickly takes a few boyz and some Night Goblins and moves south to participate in relieving the stumpies of Mount Silverspear.

Cracktooth crossed the mountains with Grimgor and had subjugated the Orc tribes under the big Boss. Now Cracktooth leads a horde toward Mount Silverspear and the Dwarves who have recently occupied their former hold.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Cracktooth first attacks a small Dwarven army outside the hold.

Grimgor moving south encounters reports of more Dwarven armies moving into the barren lands encouraged by the capture of Mount Silverspear.

Orcs gathered to Grimgor's banner as word of the stumpy armies spread. Soon Grimgor had gathered a horde powerful enough to challenge the nearest Dwarven army. The Dwarves have arrived flush on the success of the capture of Mount Silverspear and take the battle to Grimgor...

Grimgor calls for some of that Goblin brew captured from Mount Gunbad as the 2nd stumpy army marches into view...

Cracktooth had sent some of his horde north to join Grimgor and now finds a small Dwarven army attacking along with the trapped garrison in Mount Silverspear.

As dawn breaks over the horizon Slayers charge Cracktooth's horde attempting to break through and escape the death trap the barren lands have become.

Cracktooth kills Deregar CrownShield in personal combat and the rest of his horde finishes off the stumpies who fight to the bitter end.

Five months later in the valley below Karak Eight Peaks...

Vile curses are heard amongst the Squig herds as the Night Goblin chief Bigarma observes the advancing Orcs through the strange instrument. Most of Bigarma's inventions have failed but with access to the great furnaces and tools of recently captured Karak Eight Peaks Bigarma has finally created something that works- after a fashion. Bigarma had just now forgotten that the smaller end goes to his eyes not the larger and the Night Goblin chief is cursing as he realized the Orcs he thought were safely far enough away his clan could scurry away are in fact charging toward him even now.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Small goblins are kicked away as Bigarma races through his clan and stares at the crest of the hill where the overgrown thuggish Orcs have erected something beautiful... a Rock Lobba that releases just as Bigarma stops to stare.

*&@^! Bigarma has the voice of an angelic Empire tenor and is considered quite large for a Night Goblin but atop his Squig he reaches barely chest high on the average Orc and not even waist high compared to a Black Orc- however Bigarma did not become chief for nothing and shouts out commands to his cowering clansmen. "Wese gotta lotz more dan them over da... two times as many!" Goblins can rarely count with much accuracy and Bigarma is using the mythical and arcane quatrains of multiplication, spurred on by such a high blessing the Goblins shed their fear and hold steady against the advancing Orcs despite the burning Goblins bodies that fill the air with the scent of roasted Goblin flesh making the opposing Orcs drool with hunger. Bigarma is not very good at multiplication and unfortunately for his clan the slight error in his multiplication seals their demise.

The battle is long and bloody as the Night Goblins despite their short stature are a huge tide of stabbing, biting, and squealing creatures. Some Orcs are overcome with hunger and toss weapons aside attempting to grab goblins with their bare hands....

Cracktooth has brought a few Orcs from the battles in the barren lands against Slayers and stunty Longbeards and fills his horde with mystical Waaagh energy when the fighting reaches the peak which slowly turns the tide back and only a couple hundred Night Goblins manage to escape into the mountains.

Bigarma is not among those and even as he is thrust into the stewpot his strong tenor is heard shouting "But weze gotta lotz more! Two times more!"

Grimgor had returned to Mount Gunbad after the recent battles against the stunties to gather more boyz and partake of that wonderful brew discovered in the bowels of that mountain. Now he marches west toward Karak Eight Peaks gathering a horde as he moves.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

A smaller army of stunties are surprised to find Grimgor at the head of a large horde moving into lands long held firmly by the Dwarven clans.

Their surprise is as short lived as they.

Kadrak Kadrin had fallen to the Orcs months ago and is now firmly held by Slookilla. More Orcs from the barren lands arrive and move further east under the command of some of Grimgor's Black Orcs.

Word arrives that the Empire has temporarily eradicated the largest gatherings of Beastmen and might soon provide an able adversary for Grimgor!

The growing hordes of Orcs under Grimgor will soon pose a significant risk to a so far unaware Empire. News of the capture of Mount Silverspear had given cheer to friends of the Dwarves to offset the loss of Kadrak Kadrin but now the news of the heavy Dwarven losses met in the barren lands is met with skepticism, Orc raids occasionally penetrate into the Empire and are easily dispersed. Most in the Empire imagine that while the loss of Kadrak Kadrin is a blow to the Dwarves, the Slayer cult would soon manage to recapture their sacred hall.

Nachtdorf had been captured by Orcs fleeing the rise of Grimgor and been left alone by an Empire beset by a scourge of Beastmen, now a horde led by Grimgor's Black Orc arrives to bring to submission the last of the Orcs on this side of the Empire.

The battle is bloody as many of the strongest Orcs had left the barren lands once it became obvious that Grimgor probably was the biggest and baddest Orc.

Rotatoota had been one of the smallest Black Orcs to cross the mountains with Grimgor but has since grown even larger than any of the Orcs in Nachtdorf. The battle is bloody but never really in doubt as Rotatoota's horde is larger and obeys a mightier Boss whose own Boss is the famous (at this time mostly amongst Orcs) Grimgor.

As Nachtdorf falls introducing word of a new Orc warlord to a troubled Empire Cracktooth has held a siege of Karak Eight Peaks for many months not daring to challenge the walls while across the valley a large stumpy hold sits with a large army of stumpies who would just love to see the Orcs waste their strength on the Goblins and would swiftly fall upon the victor. Grimgor finally advances up the valley providing Cracktooth with the opportunity to complete his siege of Karak Eight Peaks...

Cracktooth has had Karak Eight Peaks under siege for several months and now that Grimgor has advanced into the valley Cracktooth can mount an assault on the Goblin clans holding the ancient hall.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Goblins are small and cowardly creatures but their method of fighting in massed packs causes high casualties in tight spaces where Orcs prefer to fight individually.

With the fall of Karak Eight Peaks the Goblin clan chiefs choose to ally with Grimgor than risk more disruptions to their experiments.

In the Halls of the Dwarven Elders...

"I am Thorgrim, High King of clan Durazclad and Lord of Karaz a-Karak, I bear the Book of Grudges and sit on the Throne of Power which bears Azamar, the Rune of Eternity. I hereby spill my own blood onto these newly written lines- Grimgor Ironhide is due full enmity of the Dwarven race. On behalf of clan Durazclad I pledge on my life and on my honor to rectify the balance on these pages and bring Grimgor Ironhide's balance in favor of our Race."

With these words Thorgrim sets off to attack Grimgor in the valley below Karaz a-Karak.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Unfortunately for Thorgrim and the Book of Grudges the balance of Grimgor Ironhide rises higher.

    In the Court of Ostermark...

"Milord Wolfram, more Orcs have arrived and defeated with those holding Nacthdorf." Wolfram the Watcher was named for his constant vigilance over the eastern border of the Empire. Now Count Wolfram must decide what to do about this new Orc incursion. Wolfram turns to the captain of his guard, "Summon the nearest regiments, and send orders to our men that have been in the west searching for signs of Beastmen gathering- we will march toward Karak Kadrin and attempt to recapture if before more Orcs are drawn to Nachtdorf and the Empire." The captain salutes, "Milord, how many regiments will we send?" "Send a half cohort ahead under Kurt Hertwig, I will follow with a full cohort of the men from arriving from the west."

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Kurt Hertwig marches only half a day ahead of Count Wolfram but that is a mistake that is soon brought to his attention by the Black Orc Slookilla.

Slookilla is encouraged by the easy victory over Kurt Hertwig and moves to attack Count Wolfram.

Wolfram makes a mistake early trying to draw out Slookilla but then forces Slookilla to march on the high ground... the battle is fierce and Slookilla is on the verge of collapsing Wolfram's lines when the Blackguard of Morr charges uphill and breaks through the Goblins holding a ridge above Wolfram's lines. The Halberdier companies follow chopping through the disrupted Orcish lines and running down the hill to reform. Slookilla reforms his disordered boyz and attempts to flank Wolfram's remaining men again but this time the slope is too narrow and repeated charges by the Blackguards eventually kill the remaining Black Orcs... Slookilla barely escapes the pursuit.

The surviving Orcs are executed and their corpses staked along the road to Karak Kadrin.

Grimgor hears the news of the battle against Ostermark and detaches a Black Orc of his personal guard and orders him to raise a horde.

Grimgor moves to lay siege to Karaz a-Karak. This Dwarven holds walls have rarely been challenged and never taken. Grimgor is prepared for a long siege.

In the camp of Grimgor Ironhide...

Black Orcs stand around boasting of their prowess as Grimgor stares up at Karaz a-Karak, the boredom of no battle has Grimgor fantasizing about crushing the stumpy leaders skull... or better yet, making an earring with it and showing it to every stumpy before they die. Savage Orc wolf riders dash into the camp- "Boss! Da stumpies be comin to usz!" Grimgor snatches up his axe and runs howling towards the center of the camp, the Black Orc guard joins in the chorus and a chant of, "Waaagh, Waaagh, Waaagh!" is soon heard even by the advancing stumpies.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Grimgor is triumphant although the battle is at times close, the poor coordination between the Dwarven armies eager to avenge the death of Thorgrim prove crucial as instead of Grimgor being caught between two hammers, the smaller stumpy army is simply smashed by the power of the Orcish Waaagh! and only the second stumpy army puts up much of a fight.

The fall of Karaz a-Karak sends shockwaves through the nearby Border Princes and within weeks armies are sent to aid the Dwarves against what appears to be a growing Orc threat.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Border Princes have fought in many raids and skirmishes but full scale battles are rare... Grimgor's boyz have become a capable force and ruled thru fear of Grimgor and his Black Orcs nearly match the discipline of an Empire regiment. The battle is not a real contest although the Border Prince cavalry nearly catch Badruk and skewer his entire bodyguard on the tips of their lances before being brought down.

In the north Rotatoota has pursued Count Wolfram into Ostermark but turns away a few miles from Nagenhof when scouts report numerous Ostermark armies converging and a large Kislevite army just across the river.

Near Karaz a-Karak Cracktooth leads his horde out against the Border Prince armies while Grimgor haunts the deep halls of Karaz a-Karak expecting Skaven or cave trolls, or something to fight! The Dwarves of Karaz a-Karak have kept their halls cleared of vermin and Grimgor is the very first non Dwarve to walk the deep halls in centuries.

The Border Princes constantly harass the Orcs who are momentarily stretched thin from attrition... more Orcs arrive every week however and so far the Orcs have won every large engagement.

The Border Prince do not give up and know that their best chance of peace is restoring Karaz a-Karak to the Dwarves.

While Orcs join Grimgor for the glory of battle and plunder, not all the Goblin clans and even Skaven in the barren lands work for free. The armor and weapons of Grimgor's growing hordes cost more than even the stream of treasure from the victories over the Dwarven holds can provide.

Meanwhile Badruk has grown tired of waiting for the battles the constant Border Prince raids bring and takes the offensive...

The walls of Zenres prove too strong for the limited Orc enginearz that Badruk has on hand but Badruk's reputation grows with the attack deep into the lands of the Border Princes.

In the north Count Wolfram has taken fresh reinforcements and in turn pursues Rotatoota back towards Nachtdorf where Rotatoota takes a position at the river crossing. Count Wolfram turns east and moves towards Karak Kadrin not realizing that the previous defeat of the Orc and the heavy losses have already been replaced and more with Slookilla leading an even stronger horde this time.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Wolfram has sent his best general Zifrid ahead while his cohort takes the center position followed by a rearguard on the march toward Karak Kadrin. Heavy spring snows fall and force a slight separation between the Ostermark cohorts and Slookilla takes advantage falling on Zifrid as his cohort marches up the pass.

Despite the surprise and conditions Zifrid manages to escape with a remnant of his cohort and alert Count Wolfram of the size of the Orc hordes. Count Wolfram is horrified to realize so many Orcs have already spilled over the pass directly onto the border of the Empire. Even 3 full cohorts of soldiers may not be enough to stem what is growing from a raid into an invasion...

Thanks! When I played Dwarves in CoW it did not seem very challenging and in tabletop I always played High Elves or Skaven.

In CoW my tastes changed a little bit mostly due to factors of the map and available factions. However I am having more fun with this Orc campaign so far than I did with most other CoW campaigns. I do think most Empire campaigns and Dwarven are too easy in 1.44 as their roster is so strong only the massive scripted armies make much challenge. Whereas with Orc I think I have only faced 3 scripted armies in almost 40 turns? And its still fighting through Dwarven lands and into just the borders of the Empire. I might do an Sylvania/Undead AAR next when I get the time or else upgrade to 1.5 and try out the Chaos Dwarves.

Don't get your hopes up for 1.5 - it needs some serious balancing in my opinion. But each to their own of course. Anyway I await some more killing of the Border Princes (as you've killed most off my compatriots! )

I do agree about the Orcs as a fun faction to play. I think a lot of people get put off by the lack of money - not realising that its a well thought out ploy by the team - you're an Orc, get attacking! The Orcs do get a lovely balance of wierd and wonderful troops of all types, shapes and sizes.

I'll wait a bit for 1.5 no big deal. Orcs easily get enough money for awhile if they capture Mount Gunbad and the slayer keep. Fighting the Empire is a bit frustrating at times... the Halberdiers run right through Orc units and cut them to pieces while the Orcs don't really have an answer at all for Empire knights. Orcs have an fun army but its not really very diverse. Not compared to almost any faction other than Border Princes or Dwarves at least.

Dwarves are still quite strong. I'll show a whole picture of the map on turn 40 in the AAR but my spies just found Dwarves control half of Sylvania. On the rankings their military strength has barely budged. I've only taken 2 regions from them. I don't intend to fight them much more... Empire called a Crusade and I think Chaos scripts will start running into the Orc lands soon.

Ostermark headquarters in a field camp west of Karak Kadrin...

"What are your orders Milord?" Count Wolfram paces back and forth thinking furiously- the Orcs rarely raid into the winter but if Lord Zifrid's report is accurate Orcs are pouring out of the pass despite the conditions. After several minutes of silence Count Wolfram turns and barks orders, "Assemble the men, pack lightly and prepare them for a hard march. We must return to Ostermark immediately for if we fail the entire Duchy will be open to the greenskins. Summon an orderly as well, if Zifrid is to be believed the Orcs might not be far away and I should wish to write to my wife in case I fall in defense of the Duchy."

Just as Count Wolfram has finished dictating the letter there are yells of alarm outside. Wolfram closes his eyes... and mumbles, "we moved too fast and then too slowly, its always the timing!" Moving quickly he motions for the orderly to hand off the letter to the messenger waiting at the tent doorway and tells the man to ride as if all the greenskins of the barrenlands are pouring out the pass behind him, then Wolfram sighs and says a quick pray to Sigmar while the orderly buckles on his armor.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Slookilla dances around the nicely crisped remains of some of the men of the Legio XLV swinging the head of Richter Kreugar wildly and shouting, "I gotta zsee dis! Dis here zskull gonna git big!" The curse which animates Richter Kreugar takes a full night and a full day to work however and by noon the following day Slookilla is bored with nothing happening and disappointed tosses the skull away. If a Shaman had been near the curse might have been turned into a might amulet or spell but the next day Richter Kreugar rises and walks slowly towards the setting sun, disappointed yet again.

Meanwhile Count Wolfram's fear is not completely filled. Only about half of the Orcs in the barren lands are moving towards the pass...

The death of Count Wolfram and the peril of Ostermark lead the Emperor and the Grand Theogonist to call for a Holy Crusade to meet this greenskin tide and roll over all the way back to Grimgor's first camp which has grown into a large town.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Slookilla has a strong horde behind him and can feel the power of the Waaagh beginning to grow... all the lands of men, stumpies, and even the elves shall feel the power of the Orc!

The walls of Nagenhof could have provided safe refuge had Count Nicholas relied on them but instead eager to avenge Count Wolfram his uncle Count Nicholas orders and attack beyond the walls on the approaching greenskin horde.

The sacking of Nagenhof lasts for days, Count Wolfram's wife had stayed out of hope her husband would arrive soon. Luckily she had send the children away just in case but in the looting she dies on the end of a rampaging Orc's serrated blade along with thousands of other Empire citizens.

General Frederick marched as quickly as possible after hearing word of Count Wolfram's defeat. Nearing Nagenhof pillars of smoke were seen rising from the city. Believing the smoke was signs of a siege still in progress Frederick hurried closer only to be confronted with a horde of greenskins spilling from the ravaged remnants of Nagenhof.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Count Zifrid had gathered men as quickly as possible and departed Nagenhof anticipating the city could withstand a siege under Count Nicholas and moved the threaten Nachtdorf. Camping just north of the river Count Zifrid halts to wait for reinforcement and wakes a few days later to the sound of refugees begging to be allowed to cross the bridge despite there being Orc territory on the other side. The news that Nagenhof has fallen throws Count Zifrid into indecision. He might well control the only major Ostermark army aside from the garrison of Bogenhofen. There is also the responsibility of being the last remaining Heir of the current line. Before Zifrid has fully committed to a course of action Slookilla attempting to cross the bridge and receive more Orcs from Nachtdorf runs straight into Count Zifrid's army.

With the death of the last Count of Ostermark the League falls into chaos.

Weeks before the fall of Nagenhof Prince Godwin of Hochland had raised an army to answer the call of the Holy Crusade. Deciding to take the northern route into the barrenlands and aid Ostermark repel the current Orc incursion Prince Godwin has instead brought his army into mortal peril.

In the south the first Crusader armies from Averland pass by Karaz a-Karak on the way to the barrenlands. The Grand Theogonist and the Emperor don't anticipate ending the threat from the Orcs forever, but they hope by focusing on what they think of as the center of Grimgor's power to dissipate the growing Waaagh and return the barrenlands to the status quo where without a strong leader the Orc will not be able to hold their gains against the Dwarves and Border Princes.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

What the Emperor does not know and even Grimgor has not paid attention to is that the Black Orc Badruk, Boss of the Savage Orcs has decided to move the entire Savage Orc clan out of the barrenlands and make Karak Eight Peaks its new home. Averland armies marching through what is now Savage Orc land pushes Badruk to launch a series of devastating attacks. Badruk is a very old Black Orc having arrived long before Grimgor, who has bossed the wild and uncivilized (even for Orcs) Savage Orc tribe for as long as anyone aside from the Dwarves and a few historians in the Empire can recall. Know to be especially wily and some theorize Badruk must be possessed of some magic such as a Potion of Vitality to have lived so long and led such an unsophisticated tribe to the heights of Orc power such as it is.

In the north the fall of Ostermark has drawn Kislev into conflict with Slookilla's hordes. Kislev is more worried about the Chaos armies gathering in the north but an incurious of Orcs onto the plains could lead to a dangerous 2 front war.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Grimgor has pushed all the captured loot into the hands of those who can supply his hordes with more and better weapons. Even the treasures of the Dwarven holds have not been able to sustain the battle attrition and the new Crusade has many of the veterans of Grimgor's campaigns waiting for supplies in Mount Gunbad and the Warboss camp unable to afford anything. Grimgor has been content to stalk the halls of Karaz a-Karak fighting through the traps and remaining pockets of Dwarves hidden deep in the mountain while the Shaman have been focus for some reason on the northern plains and have been sending Slookilla most of the newly equipped Orcs for his campaigns against Ostermark and now Kislev.

Slookilla has fought through several Kislev armies and even some remnant refugees of Ostermark formed into an army and now advances onto Vitebsk. The shaman have encouraged him to attack Kislev for some reason.

The army of Talabecland somewhere near the barrenlands...

Henry der Bar had been given command of a Crusade army not out of any great love for glory or desire to join with the other Duchies but merely for political expedience. Talabecland had been the least troubled Duchy by the recent Beastmen surge and its rulers believed the Orcish threat would similarly fade away. Henry de Bar is simply a career soldier without strong connections to the ruling families of Talabecland. Never the less his men respect him and he has proven a capable commander. A full company of Warrior Priests of Sigmar have been put under Henry's command nominally though the Priests are an arrogant bunch whom Henry believes were ordered onto the Crusade more to remove their troublesome presence from the decadence of Talabecland than for any military reason.

"Are you sure there have been no sign of the Averlanders," demands Henry of the leader of his scouts, "We were supposed to have met up with them or seen some sign of their passing by now. The whole point of a Crusade is strength in numbers. I dislike this venturing into unknown territory." The scout captain scoffs, "We've seen nary a sign of an Orc in a week. I bet they have all fled before the Averlanders and we will arrive too late to even see what the Warboss camp once looked like." "Do not become overconfident, did not Karaz a-Karak fall just a few months past? No, there are certainly Orcs around... perhaps they are just more clever than we are expecting which brings some doubts to my mind at night."

No sooner had these words passed Henry's lips than heavy Orc arrows suddenly fall on the edge of the camp...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Warrior Priests of Sigmar nearly live up to their reputation, their final stand is on a heap of Orcish bodies but not a single one survives to tell the tale.

In Talabecland the dispatch riders from Henry de Bar suddenly stop arriving. Only a few members of the court even notice and fewer still make any attempt to find out what happened. The families of the those serving in that army are not told anything for several weeks until it is sure that some disaster must have befallen the men. The book of the Talabecland legions are marked with the loss of a cohort but in the months to follow their story is forgotten by all but their wives and children.

    Warboss Camp, barrenlands...

Shaman dance and wave before a huge bonfire and a tower altar to Gork and Mork, "Waaagh! Waagh! Waaagh! Gork is wanting usz to git onto da plains screams out a young Shaman. The elder shaman has been dancing at a frenzied pace and suddenly screams, "Mork commandz Orcs to capture the Border Prince's lands and lay waste to the Empire!" The argument rages on all night until the elder Shaman passes out from too much brew...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

A month later the younger Shaman is visited by the elder, "You grotz, thinkz you so zmart, hekeheke!" Slookilla thankz you for the brewz and the Goblins thankz you for the lootz you offerz for the capturez of Chernigov, letz zee you try dat againz!" Still cackling the elder Shaman walks away leaving the younger shaman momentarily destitute.

Badruk is glorying in the constant battles with these eager humanz on Crusade. His horde is growing smaller with every battle and now the Crusaders are soon to leave the lands of the Savage Orcs, Badruk decides that he will attack anyway...

The army of the Middenlands has seen signs of battles everywhere along the ancient Dwarven road, most are old graves dug by Dwarves but scouts have reported clouds of carrion crows in the distance and investigation turned up signs of another Crusader army no doubt ambushed in these foul wastes. Thyrus Warren smiles to himself and thinks how he wishes the Orcs should try it on the glorious army of the Middenlands, victor in engagements with Beastmen and even Dark Elven raids in the previous months. Riding to the top of the next ridge Thyrus is speechless for a moment... arrayed in the valley below is a horde of Orcs pulling some type of giant machines up the old Dwarven road. Quickly signaling his trumpeter Thyrus gives the order to form a battle line. "Let's see how these Orcs do forced to come on a prepared foe holding the high ground. Confident in his men and the Empire doctrine he was trained by Thyrus readies himself for battle.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Orcs of Slookilla's horde spew out onto the plains of Kislev, guided by Grimgor's orders and the desire to claim a territory for his own horde Slookilla order his boyz to settle on the lands beyond the pass for the first time since the age of Sigmar Orcs are not just raiding out of the barrenlands, but actually settling now that the Dwarven holds which have so long defended Kislev and the Empire are fallen.

Warboss Camp has been a frenzy of activity since Grimgor began his conquests... usually the camp is deserted but Grimgor has ordered a strong horde to remain in case any snotty humans sneak through the barrenlands and somehow attack the armories and goblin shops supplying Grimgor's battles.

Badruk leaves the barrenlands and returns to the Savage Orcs new home of Karak Eight Peaks. Journeying down the old Dwarven road Badruk comes across more Crusader armies.

Badruk sniffs the air... "Zmells like humanz right boyz?" Letz git da bloody gits." Goblin scouts riding wolves return to the Orc column- "Boss! Therislotza humansz! Lotszlotsz!" "More an we gotz? queries the old Black Orc chief sensing a potential problem. "Yeh, we gotz dis," the Goblin scout boss holds up his hand, "Dey gotz dis," holding up both his hands. Badruk considers the problem, his horde has not healed from the past battles yet but these humans are trespassing on Savage Orc lands, time to make sure the word is spread since so few humans had escaped the earlier battles. A challenge like this is rarely attempted by a Orc Boss but Badruk reasons he can always run away if things go bad.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

In the north Slookilla has moved to attack a Crusading army from Nordland, somewhere Slookilla has only vaguely heard about. Feeling the beating pulse of the Waaagh growing ever faster Slookilla attacks without sending scouts ahead...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Many Black Orcs and lesser Orcs die in this battle- fallen to the companies of Inner Circle and White Wolf Knights that few Orcs have ever faced. Slookilla rejoices in the bloodlust of the battle and knows that if Grimgor does not soon call a Waaagh, Slookilla will be called by Mork and Gork to ravage the lands over the river.

After replenishing his horde in Nachtdorf, Slookilla moves north and dares to lay siege to Kislev itself. Sieges on Kislev are not unique as the forces of Chaos have laid siege to the city in times past. Many other Kislevite cities have fallen but never the Capitol. An Orc horde laying siege would have seemed unthinkable only a few shorts years ago but now the citizens of Kislev prepare for the onslaught of new fears, where before Chaos had been the biggest worry, the Orc hordes and Grimgor are a faint murmur on every street corner.

The Tzar departs the city to raise further troops on the central plains but in reality his worst fears are realized, the fall of first the Dwarven hold barring the pass, then the ruin of Ostermark and the defeat of the few Kislevite armies which arrived too late has set Kislev against the greatest peril it has ever known. Only Erengrad and Praag will remain of the large cities of Kislev if the capitol falls. But one is threatened by Dark Elves and the other by Chaos. It is a dark day for the lands of men...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The loot of Kislev is enough to fuel Grimgor's war machine shops for less than 3 months- more cities must fall and now Grimgor is fully aroused and ready to leave the dark halls of Karaz a-Karak and fight back the Crusaders and take the war into the Empire just as Slookilla is doing to Kislev.

In the south the Border Princes have taken the chance offered by the aid of the Crusader armies putting Grimgor and his hordes on the defensive to lay siege to Karaz a-Karak and attempt to reclaim the hold for the Dwarves.

Grimgor is drawn out of his fascination with the depths of the ancient hold and immediately orders and attack. Waaagh!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The battle is short and furious... the Border Princes suffer in the first charge of the Orcs but then hold their lines and begin cutting down Orcs faster than they fall. Grimgor charges Prince Zenresa and slays him in personal combat. The remaining men fight on for a bit but lose hope and soon the first men throw down weapons and try to make a run for the hills. A few dozens do actually survive until the Orcs grow bored in pursuit.
