    Default Random pauses/freezes...

My pc will randomly freeze or more like a pause, this happens about 5-6 times an hour and it's always accompanied by the fan coming on. The pause only last about 1 second, very short but still can screw you up when you are playing a fast paced game for instance. Could this be an overheating issue? I installed a new power supply last year and this started about a month later. The power supply fits VERY tight up against the back of my dvd rom, I had to really be careful getting it in there.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Drexx

Is the fan in the PSU or the CPU? Which one is turning on?

It's the power supply fan, the one I put in.

Then it sounds like something is wrong with your PSU, might be overheating. You should change your PSU and see what happens.

If you can't get a different PSU, try tremoving the side of your case to see if the increased airflow negates the pauses. Or remove the CD ROM...your case must be pretty small for both of those components to be touching one another.

Is there a way to keep the fan running?

Yes this has happened to me before, and my computer froze while the fan was going on, then it overheated, and i had to get a new fan.

Plus you PSU fan should always be on, it should never turn on and off. What make is your case and PSU? Sounds to me like too much fluctuation on you voltage rails (3,5 or 12) causing the brief pause while the bandwidth recovers to within the acceptable range of the rail.

Hmm, for the life of me I cant find out what make my PSU is, I've checked it before but cant remember how. I threw the box away of course like a dumbass. I think it does have something to do with the voltage, it just feels like thats the problem.
