Why is the a gigantic Eastern Army on Sardinia?

Seriously... I land my best legion, 3 silver chevron Hastati, Principes, and a few golden Triarii, and I'm attacked by... horse archers and Eastern Infantry?

Now a few horse archers I could understand, eastern style infantry I can understand, but defeating 3 armies and then being shot to death by the 4th, all of which carry over a thousand horse archers each... all in the same turn... I'd like to know why I just lost my Faction leader and my best legion... Killed over 6,000 of the buggers and I'd expect that if it were a Carthaginian colony but its just a rebel fishing village... they don't even have a port and yet they can manufacture almost 4,000 cavalry in a single turn?!?!

That is a good SPQR surprise, isn't it ;-) I don't quite remember but think this army is only for SPQR 6.0... version 6.1 doesn't have it...

Well, first of all, the rebels have a treasury of 9,000,000 denari and Second, Sardinia has a starting population of 5000 and a growth rate of 4.5 to 6.

i dont see the problem, remember you're not attacking a rebel city, you have invaded an island. just think of it as the island uniting against a common enemy...that would be you.

Horse Archers are a bit much though. It takes alot of training to ride a horse and fire a bow at the same time, plus it's expensive to have a horse. I could understand 1-2 units of Horse Archers per army, but not the numbers this guy is talking about.

Well, I tried playing as Rebels once and on that settlement, you can only build Eastern infantry and Horse Archers.

Do you mind telling us how those Eastern armies got to Sardina in the first place? Shouldn't they be some sort of Latin rebals or at a streach Greek rebals.

Well I've gotten my Vengeance... I landed Manillius Julius with two light legions and a Heavy Legion on Sardinia, and using some very crafty and evil tricks I've crushed all of those rebel armies and I am now in the phase of annihilating everything that exists on that island.

The tactics I use, though... I think might be somewhat exploitative... but the buggers deserve it!
A normal light legion for me is 8 Hastati, 4 Velites, 4 Equites, 2 Slingers, and 1 Triarii/Principes and a General.
Splitting that in half, and attacking an army in a heavily forested area, hiding the 4 Hastati and Triarii/Principes (Whichever I decide to train at the time)
And then using the General/Command unit to draw the enemy horse archers into the forest where they first get pelted from the front by slingers, then as they get focused firing on them the Velites hurl their javelins as to the Hastati who then charge immediately and slaughter the Horse ARchers, then they form a rear-guard as the half legion shifts to a new position and if I can, ambush the enemy again, or simply retreat off the map and fight again elsewhere.

Using tactics like these I wear big ugly armies down, and then close in for the kill with my Heavy Legion (LT's standard setup+1 modification, -1 Hastati +1 Velites.)

Is that considered exploitative? Since I bait, trap, kill parts of enemy armies and then retreat?

Thats why Lt has proposed the NEW and IMPROVED 6.1 version. I had that same problem too but I just beat them down by killing off both generals really quick and then their armies routed and so my equites mopped up. That was the last problem I had with 6.0.

incase you haven't realised SPQR isnt exactly historically accurate and its not ment to be. Play RTR if you want accuracy

No, Hoffman, I meant if you want to be accurate then the island rebels should use Carthaginian Units.

It should be Spanish units instead. Afterall, Sardinia was founded by the Spanish themselves(based on descr_strat).
